Football bodies Fifa and Uefa have appealed against a European ruling that the World Cup and Euro Championships must be on free-to-air TV in the UK.

In February, the European General Court said the UK could keep the events on a list of "protected" events of national sporting interest shown for free.

It means the two tournaments cannot be sold exclusively to pay-TV firms.

Fifa and Uefa say they cannot sell the events fairly, and the cases will now go to the European Court of Justice.

[LIFTED] you FIFA!!!!!

Not surprising is it?

If they can't make up their salaries with bribes and back-handers anymore, they have to look at increasing revenue elsewhere.

Rubbish they can still sell prime rights to pay TV and still offer slightly delayed free transmission to a number of terrestrial services. I think that the public will accept a delay of three or four hours for matches. Match of the day showed highlights of games from earlier in the day for years and it was not a problem.

Doubt it!
It's not as is the Beeb or ITV don't pay for it anyway. FIFA still get money, the greedy sods just want more.

I accept that the BBC or ITV pay, but would a three hour delay be that much of a problem for fans? I am not that bothered by football so cannot really comment. Though I do think that they should get to the masses.

Yes, yes it would.

A three hour delay wouldn't bother me at all. I don't watch football. :P

I only suggested it as a option to get free football. The time delay is arbitrary.
