I guess it kind of is, but not really... Think of upgrading from XP to Vista, when upgraded the system will be set up like it used to be (without any migration), just all the new OS stuff, but you still have the same copy of the XP system on the computer which you can revert back to if everything goes pear shaped... You basically copy your current system onto new slices (like partitions, might be on different disks, might not be), then upgrade the copied system, then boot into it. In the last couple of releases it's become more clever, when you copy your current system, it only copies over bits that need upgrading, then will share parts of the old system, you can then choose to boot into either BE, allowing you to switch back if the upgrade didn't go to plan (because of a corrupt installer or some sort of interruption, etc). Generally once one BE is up and working, you keep the old BE and just upgrade that when a new update comes out, as all the slices are set up, all the mirroring is all set up, etc. Thankfully the whole thing is going out the window and in the new releases it's all automated for us No more playing with what slice is mirrored with what other slice and creating new ones and playing with specific patches, etc... Seeing as no one has ever upgraded this (rather important) machine, I need to do a load of leg work to do the initial upgrade...Unfortunately I can't schedule much downtime as people depend on it 24/7

so, the OS gets imaged, upgraded, then mounted and booted into, if successful then YAY!, but if fails the old un-upgraded OS can be used?

In a nutshell, yes Though it failed last night Halfway through the 'imaging', and now I can't re-image it because it's half done, so I'm going to have to try and clean it all up manually and start over As I said, now it's all automated for you, but this is an old version (about 4 or 5 years old)...

I'm going to try and rename my Flickr pictures tonight, so they don't all have stupid names like DSC0328. I've never used Flickr before, so this is kinda like a big deal for me... OK, a medium sized deal

Reminds me of when I got my iPod John, suddenly I cared about what things were called, what albums they belonged in and that they're cover art should be correct, etc...

Being honest, I really don't care about what the pictures are called myself, but if people, (a good example being Heather) are looking at pictures that they might be able to use "Ancoats, Manchester" is a lot more useful than "DSC0287"

Yeah, I needed to upload the pictures I had taken for Heathers' Manchester Pictures thread, and it was the first online hosting site that I found. *shudders* Oh dear god..... I haven't inadvertantly joined the "social networking" world, have I?

Yeah, 'cos I'd know that...! Is it John_Vella ? Not being funny, but I don't even know how to check... If you could let me know how to find out, that might be useful. Thanks.

And now I have no excuses for not uploading my TARDIS cake pictures from my birthday, in November.
So... what can I do with this Flickr thing, folks?
