Ahhh, barcodes y'say. That's right clever that is. I don't keep up much with this fancy technolomology stuff. Pleased that a meerkat does though. Sooo... these barcodes. How's that going to work then. You're proposing a scanner at each bin? Or a handheld wifi system? It is a good idea. I just don't think the NHS will be able to effectively implement it. Perhaps I'm wrong, I'd love to be. That automated system mentioned above ^ seems to be a step in the right direction.

That is my take on the problems. It will just not be done properly so be a complete waste of money. Best to create a system at one hospital and trial it then once all the bugs are worked out replace all existing drug management systems.

OK, the NHS keeping gloves etc in stock might be a little harder, but I can't imagine there are any hospitals left that don't take electronic inventory of drugs, with scanning/recording taking place as they are prescribed.

Well I saw that automated Pharmacy on the news a month or so ago. It's been in action for a few years, saves space as it stocks the shelves in a manner logical to itself, orders more stock, reduces man hours and reduces the amount of time beds are used as in many hospitals people are waiting about until their drugs are ready.
It's saved money, time and paid for itself. Some technology does work.

I saw that, it reminded me of those automatic car parks that deposit your car somewhere.

I vaguely remember something like that. If it is done well it should be expanded across the country.
