I don't particularly want to be hauled up in front of the GMC for taking pics of a young female patient who accidentally exposed herself. In the same vein as me not battering an eyelid when I had to do vaginal exams, speculums and smears in (quick mental arithmetic) 500 women (at a minimum) when I did obs and gynae. That's more than the average guy in a lifetime.

Compiler Coursework. We've received an email saying it's been marked. Lowest mark is 1%. Highest mark is only 82%. Average is 32%. Pass-grade is 40%. Aaaaaaaaargh!

A friend of mine is a consultant pathologist and he went into that field so he would have his weekends free and not have to deal with patients. So when he moved to a new hospital they put him in charge of cervical smears. He now always has a woman nurse present and will never be left alone with a female patient because of potential problems with delusional women. If he needs some thing he gets it rather than the nurse to avoid being left alone.

I've heard the personal experiences of two different reliable women regarding this. The "woman nurse" sits outside behind a curtain so she can't see what the doctor is doing. Both women thought it was utterly preposterous. It's weird though. I'm much less embarrassed when a woman nurse / doctor checks out my genitals than I am with a man. No matter how much medical logic you apply to the situation; being felt up by a bloke is just a touch gay

Yes I think most men prefer to be felt up by a woman.

Well there is that. There is also the fact that such examinations for men don't tend to be... invasive. Although I've had one that is. I had a peculiar side effect to the general aneasthetic so the day after the op the aneasthetist came over to see me. OK, she's up the other end but still, it somewhat odd talking to an attractive young woman - now I come to think about it, she looked a lot like Kate Middleton - who had been involved in that procedure on me. There's an almost overwhelming desire to ask for a mark out of ten . As a strange second part of the same story on a 'people who look like famous people' branch, the nurse in the resus ward after that op looked exactly like Natalie Appleton. Apparently, the first thing I said when I woke up with her leaning over me was "your version of 'Under the Bridge' was crap." Not my best chat up line ever.... Jon

+1. I do the same. If I have to perform a breast, vaginal or rectal examination in a female patient, I will normally have a chaperone. Times I don't normally bother with a chaperone is if it's a breast exam in someone over 60 years of age. Any female over the age of 50 will always be offered a chaperone, and anyone under 50, I will tell them I'm getting a chaperone in. Obviously, no chaperone if examining men. I do find it a bit weird that a female doctor can examine a male patient without a chaperone though. Ridiculous. I always wait until the chaperone is in the room, the door is secured and we are all behind the curtain. At the very least, the chaperone (usually the nurse) can assist with the spotlamp and holding/passing equipment. Alarm bells do ring if a male patient requests a female doctor. Ususally they turn out to have some kind of mental health problem and take pleasure in either showing off their genitalia or getting touched by a female (whereas ordinarily a normal woman wouldn't even look at them!). I'd say me sticking my finger up your back passage to be rather invasive!
