Has the BBC hired a strapline monkey from The Sun?

I wonder if it'll be as lewd and crude as Family Guy.

They've already done a few of those cut-away scenes of The Flintstones in Family Guy episodes - so seems like a perfect fit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y15xXqgWYE0http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iOQZhFrZZI

From the fact that they mentioned giving it a 21st century makeover suggests that they will. Though considering that creationists believed that humans and dinosaurs lived together then they might tone it down to keep that crowd happy and increase its audience.

There has been some new shows. Some are quiet good. Raising Hope is quite good. I think it might even be made by the team that made My name is Earl. Then Breaking in with Christian Slater is very good.

Firefly, Doll House, Fringe, Spartacus (both series), Dexter, Game Of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire... There are only so many stories in the world. You're bound to come up against familiar things sooner or later. Mind you, Family Guy is almost a modern Flintstones anyway, and it's not the first time the Flintstones have been 'relaunched' - ever see the Jetsons?

Can a dramatisation of a book be considered an original idea? Or a TV series based on a character from history already portrayed in a classic film? I don't argue the originality of the portrayal and Spartacus: Gods of the Arena is possibly the best drama I've watched this year, but the idea is far from original. I remember reading somewhere that there are in fact only 7 'dramatic devices' in storytelling and all stories are either one of them, or a combination of them. I'll see if I can dig the piece up. Don't knock the Jetsons. Jane Jetson > Wilma Flintstone any day. Jon

Fair points - I thought those series were reasonably 'fresh' ideas for television. Yup, although you'll find the figure ranges from about 5-12, last time I looked. Hmm. Betty Rubble > Wilma? Betty > Jane?

LISTER: Cat? CAT: Mmm? LISTER: Ya ever see the Flintstones? CAT: Sure! LISTER: D'ya think Wilma's sexy? CAT: Wilma Flintstone? LISTER: Maybe we've been alone in deep space too long, but every time I see that sharmi <?> body, it drives me crazy. Is it me? CAT: Well, I think in all probability, Wilma Flintstone is the most desirable woman that ever lived. LISTER: That's good. I thought I was goin' strange. CAT: She's incredible! LISTER: What d'ya think of Betty? CAT: Betty Rubble? (Pause) Well, I would go with Betty... but I'd be thinking of Wilma. LISTER: This is crazy. Why are we talking about going to bed with Wilma Flintstone? CAT: You're right. We're nuts. This is an insane conversation. LISTER: She'll never leave Fred, and we know it. CAT shakes his head in resignation.
