Disclaimer: warning - Don't read whilst just before/during/just after a meal.

Why shouldn't you eat spicy curry? Because it burns your nostrils when you vomit it back up.

Why should you chew food thoroughly? So you don't have to fish the chunks out of the drain when you vomit into the sink instead of the toilet.

Who benefits from throwing up on the floor whilst you're running to the toilet? The mice invading your home.

What's the upside of vomiting? You get to taste things twice!

Had lunch at 2pm. Next had evening meal around 8pm. Leftover curry from last night, microwaved for 2 mins. Fresh pack of uncle ben's rice, microwave cooked. Ate and felt a bit full, possibly a bit queasy at having eaten a bit more than hou normally do. Started having rigors and went to bed at 9pm but watch Live at the Apollo. Fell asleep. Awoke at 12pm feeling more queasy and felt my stomach turn. No disgusting-smelling burps that normally herald vomitus for me. Suddenly felt to urge to hurl but couldn't make the toilet and vomited twice in quick succession on the carpet in the hallway before the toilet. Toilet seat was down and couldn't lift it in time so vomited into the sink about six times. Chunks of food blocked the sink so had to reach in and lift them. Chuckes them into the toilet. Immediately felt a lot better.

Prelude to all of this is that I was up at 7am after ~ five hours' sleep to clean the interior of the car. Took the rubber mats out and had to wash them twice with the pressure washer to get the dirt off. Got soaked in the process and despite changing my clothes, I didn't do anything to warm myself up. Hence stayed cold during the day, precipitating the tummy bug. Nobody else who ate leftovers was sick, though one felt queasy.

It's ruined my weekend as I planned to clean the rest of the car tomorrow morning and then spend the day out with the family.

Ever considered it was food poisoning and not a bad reaction to curry? Get well soon.

You need to make sure leftovers are piping hot, at least 6 mins, stirring in between on full power, that's my minimum cooking time for leftovers. I find chucking cold food into the wok much quicker, and more effective at heating the food all the way through, and also allows you to add spices and water to keep it tasty. Microwaving doesn't heat all the food as well, so what can look hot ans steamy can be just warm in the middle, to kill bacteria something needs to be over 75C for five minutes.

I'm with Leeds, 2 minutes doesn't sound long enough, especially for fish or poultry.

If you're not careful meals can taste like you're eating ice cream covered in volcanic lava.

Personally I would blame the 2 minute microwave rice, what an abonimation. ;)

You shouldn't assume it was the curry either as most food poisoning occurs between 2-5 days after eating. Although you didn't mention how long it had been left for.

The rice is uncle bens stuff. Prepacked and stick in the microwave for 2 mins. If I'd made it myself, I'd have cooked for longer. The curry was veggie and I'd made it last night. Other family members were largely unaffected.

The rice was one of those uncle bens things that you microwave. Have used it as a cheat many times without problems. I tend to be more weary of non-veg stuff but at two mins, the veg curry was so hot, I couldn't eat it straight away.

Given nobody else was affected, I'm surprised if it is the curry.

Add in the fact that I felt unwell before eating, I'm tempted to believe either it was a bug that I picked up earlier or something else entirely.

I've eaten exactly the same diet as two other people for four days. Both of them came down with a rotten illness and I was fine.

Another time I came down with a stomach problem so quickly that I had to make a rapid decision between sticking my arse on the toilet or head down it. I managed to sit down and promptly evacuated at at both ends. I'm glad I sat down.

Well am sitting on the bog now and apart from some cramps, there's no diarrhoea. That would really destroy my weekend.

Takeaway food has always been a 'one night only' as far as I'm concerned. But Matt's right - think back to what you had over the past 24hrs or so as well.
Either way, hope it's soon sorted itself.

Just realised. One of the patients I saw recently was a four month old with gastroenteritis. He was so poorly we were considering admitting him if things got worse. Saw the patient on Thursday and brought back for review on Friday.
Could easily have been the cause.

The curry was homemade.

Saw a prog once about the take-away curries you get from the supermarket. Apparently, once you cook rice and it cools there are bacteria that develop and they can't be eliminated by re-heating so the companies have to kill the bacteria by a separate process. Sometimes the process is not quite successful and the occasional batch gets into the public domain. I always cook a huge pan of rice and bag it in individual portions before sticking it in the freezer and just accept the risks.

And you recipe for the curry please........ :D

I have eaten food that has caused a reaction pretty quickly. I once ate a huge seafood platter and was quite ill within a couple of hours and within 12 hours I was fine. My girlfriend of the time only had a sip of my coke and that was enough to wipe her our for a few days. I think that people have vastly different abilities to cope with the same toxin.

My little sis is vegetarian do we used ready-made paneer, mixed peppers, red onion and mushrooms. Cheated with sauce and used a ready-made tikka masala sauce, some milk, some maggie's chilli sauce and a dash of dave's temporary insanity chilli sauce. Chop, mix, bake. Fairly simple and barely takes 30 mins.

If we weren't in a bit of a rush, we would have made the sauce from scratch as it's fairly easy to do.
