Our local Co-op was refurbished last year. They set up a load of nice covered storage areas for the trolleys, only there aren't enough trolleys to go round. I can park my car nicely in a covered area. Safe from other idiots, and the rain. I may just do it next time and get a photo to prove it.

That's a bit like the fact I can park a small car in my tent. (Actually the tent door is too small, bbut I can lift the main room of the tent fully over the car so it looks like I've driven it in.)

Apparently doors that go up take up almost as much space. I don't really know how or why, but apparently, it's the case. Although I think I heard it from Clarkson on some programme, so could be bollox.

The BMW Z1 had drop down doors iirc.

This bugs me, why does the Euro symbol come after the amount when many other symbols come before the amount? e.g. £600, $500, ¥500, etc....

I call bollox on that. Cars with that feature built have doors that are pretty snug to the body. You can buy conversion kits for other cars (I know - I wondered how much it could cost to put them on mine) and they tend to open out and then swing up. They need clearance from the regular locks, and you need the momentum to get the doors to shut securely when you pull them. Still, they occupy far less horizontal space than a normal opening car door does. I’ve seen PT Cruisers fitted with them. It really looks silly. The problem I have with my car (and any car with no back doors seem to be similarly afflicted) is that the doors are very long. So to open them o you can get out of the car requires quite a bit of space. I am very careful about opening doors when I’m forced to park in a space that has neighbours. Generally, I tend to park away from the crowd (and any people carriers) so I can get the doors opened properly.

If they've been retrofitted to the car, then they often have to open horizontally to clear the mechanism etc. before lifting up, so you're really only short of a few more inches to where they'd open enough to let someone out of the car. And even then, sometimes they don't clear enough head space - have a look on barryboys.com for numerous examples of this often poorly thought out mod. Then add into the equation the fact that if the car wasn't designed for them, you're putting all sorts of curious stresses through metal that was never designed to have the weight of the door going downwards through it, which can have nasty effects.

That all makes sense. I think clarkson was specifically talking about the countach. Though as Paul points out, it's probably borrox.

It's also illegal to leave the scene of an accident in England and Wales without giving your details to any and all parties who may reasonably require them. I doubt if leaving paper under the wiper is sufficient. Where public property/street furniture is damaged or a person is harmed you are also required to inform the Police.

Why is the pound sign or dollar in front of the number in English? You don't say pounds six hundred, or dollar six hundred...

Because it is? It's just that way because it's always been that way. It's become the standard through usage over hundreds of years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Currency_symbols#Usage

I hate parking my car in places like supermarket etc, I'll park at the other end of the car park if it reduces the chance of someone parking along side me.
We should get tougher on people who knock and dent and [LIFTED] off.......
