My daughter dropped her phone which has cracked the glass screen but I don't think its damaged any further underneath. Should I attempt a DIY replacement job? Anybody tried it on a similar phone i.e touch screen phone?

I've done a screen swap on an iPhone 3G. I suspect you get what you pay for in terms of replacement hardware, so don't be cheap!
iPhone wasn't terribly difficult, and looking at a guide for the Wildfire on YouTube, it looks pretty similar in terms of small screws and edge connectors.
