Dunno about you, but I was hoping for more form 2011. However, recent posts from various forumites (Including myself) shows that 2011 is just as doom-laden as 2010 was.

Well, with £50 in the bank, half a tank of fuel and about 3 weeks to pay day... yeah I'm not having a great month.
All in all though, I am in a new job, earning more. So that's been something.

I hate to ruin the mood, but 2011's quite interesting for me thus far and although I'm being presented with a lot of challenges, I'm finding ways to tackle them and grow a little in the process.

Been pretty great for me. I've got closer to my overdraft limit this week than I have in a couple of years, but I did buy a car last month. Pay day on Friday though, so that's okay.

Thoughts are with those that haven't had a great year, I've had a few of those and will no doubt get a few more as life goes on.

I just typed out a post and it got swallowed by the intertubes.

If I can remember what I typed, it was something along the lines of I can understand what you mean, Paul. For my part, I've been singularly unsuccessful in finding paid employment, the freelance stuff has ceased to exist, and a couple of other avenues to make a crust have fallen by the wayside.

On the other hand, Best Beloved's eyes are not getting any worse, he's made a ton of new friends at the local amateur radio society, someone is happy to pay me some money to build models for them, I managed to scrape together enough cash to buy a new camera, I cleared some crap that's been in my back yard from about the early Neolithic, and the sun's been shining today.

It could be a lot worse, I have to say.

I know things could be worse for me, but I also know it could be a whole lot better.
I'm not entirely happy with my lot but then again, who is? *shrug*

IMHO to be "entirely" happy with one's lot, is to have given up, so to speak.

2011 started slow, but is improving and there's plenty more of it yet. I also get to be 30 later on in the year, so a year for reflection and change for me.

What's the line... then an engineer considers your life to be in excess of specification?

Funnily enough I was just about to start a thread on a similar line, but I'll ask my question here instead:

"Some people have interesting lives. Why don't you?"

One friend of mine is in Malawi and I hope to visit him and his good lady next year. A few days over there will probably be the most adventurous thing I've done since I went climbing in Skye 20 odd years ago.

Several other people I consider friends have spent time in various countries doing exciting sounding jobs such as dive instructors in Australia, technical consultants in Taiwan and Japan, drilling for oil in the deep ocean, flying planes and even driving trucks sounds pretty damned exciting compared to what I do!

So my question to the other people here with boring lives like mine: are you going to do something about it, or is a quiet life exactly what you're looking for?

My answer? I'm still looking for someone to share my life with, but quite frankly any other kind of "excitement" is something I'd rather keep for a special holiday once in a blue moon

I consider myself lucky to have "boring life". Neither of my parents are in good health, but there's no drama right now. My job isn't well paid, but it does pay the mortgage and I love the people I work with. My ex girlfriends either hate me or have forgotten me, but they're not raping my finances. My computer is playing up, but I can fix it. My grass needs cutting, but that's not an interplanetary crisis...

For some reason i read that as "fiancés"

And i was just like:

a) That's a rather extreme reference that i'm not getting.

b) I thought you said you didn't have a partner.

c) Fiancés?!?

And then i re-read it and chuckled to myself.

And decided to post this.

I don't have a very interesting life right now as you can see.

lol, that would at least be interesting. Only ever had the one, singular. She's mostly ignoring me now, although posting randomly on my forum as if just to remind me she's not talking to me

Aside from the growing realisation that my current job is not financially viable, life isn't too bad at the moment.

2011 for me has brought a new contract with more money and responsibility, but less hours...I've worked and worked and it's paid off.
I think I've also found the field that I want to have a career in, but that's more for next year...
