I have a twitter contact who has already downloaded and installed the betas and has confirmed that you can buy extra storage. He didn't say what the prices were though.
He also managed to find out that MobileMe users will get refunded for remaining charges but not sure what limits there are on this or what the rates are.
Also, I was thinking about the iTunes Match thing. I doubt very much that the storage of your ripped songs (i.e. ones that didn't match) will encroach into your 5Gb as this is a paid for service. I imagine it will be an additional "unlimited storage" of any unmatched songs. Any that did match are not an issue as they will be pushed down to your devices rewmoving the necessity for storing them online.
A bit disappointed that Match won't be coming to the UK to begin with. I would def buy it a def benefit from it.
Ah well, I'll be ordering an iMac as soon as they release Lion (although I may wait for a redesign?).
Oh, on a side note, they have started that upgrade thingy this week. i.e. if you buy a mac now with Snow Leopard you will get a free upgrade to Lion.

They've just refreshed them, so I wouldn't expect a redesign for at least a year. I think that would be true yes. Generally they say if you buy a mac after the release date for the next OS is announced, you then get the next one for free. Even if not, £20.... Jon

As long as my music remains on my Mac and manageable by me (which it will) I'll be happy. Apple's going to have to do something about stored files and what-not otherwise it'll end up alienating all the iWeb users that have their 'sites hosted on their iDisks. It's typical Apple fashion these days to announce something like this and not give us very many details about how it'll impact the users.

SJ said in the keynote that all the new iWork apps that they just released for iOS (i.e. just released last week) are all completely compatible with iCloud. I have them and they all have the option to open a document from iDisk or WebDav (?). This suggests that iDisk will become an integral part of iCloud. Also, unless they keep iWeb then they'd pretty much be forced to keep iDisk wouldn't they as it is an integral option to host on iDisk?

I suspect they call back to Apple and ask what options are available at startup, then taiilor themselves to that. Some of the demos in the keynote show iWork apps starting up with iCloud being present and doing different things, plus they'd need to check for iCloud being present for versions support. I suspect iCloud is based on HTTP in some form, which wouldn't be compatible with iDisk or WebDAV directly. There's a world of difference between hosting some files and serving them out to the outside world as a web site. They could offer iDisk without web hosting quite easily. In some sense you can say that all iCloud is is a massively expanded form of iDisk but that doesn't mean they have to provide the same services to the user they did with iDisk. Jon

Ah, very true. Well, nothing has actually been announced about what they are or aren't doing with it yet. For some reason a lot of people are shouting about Apple "cancelling iDisk" but they haven't actually said that that is happening yet. Only time will tell

I'm guessing the @me.com edress is still gonna remain, does anyone know differently? Also, I have an extra edress attached to my account, will that be impacted by this iDisk > iCloud change over?

The music bit is a bit meh. I have several thousand music files I've ripped, but I don't think I've listened to a single one in over 18 months. Getting the MobileMe part for free is good though.

I’d forgotten about iWeb. Apple seems to as well. It’s not on the App Store, and the iWeb page looks very dated. I expect it will go - it was heavily tied to MobileMe.

Is iPhoto on the AppStore? iWeb is a part of iLife and I didn't think any of that was on the AppStore yet? Having said that, I also think that iWeb could possibly be going.

Erm... I'm sure it used to be a part of iLife?!? Oh, and iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand are all on the AppStore. Guess it's a gonner then.
