No more switching between PC's to find the files I want.

I'd be interested in your thoughts, once you've set it up and had a play. I know it's had great reviews, but it's nice to get the opinion of someone who has shelled out their own hard earned for it.

So far it's going well. I've not looked into all the advanced stiff like iTunes server or file access from the internet yet. But as far as getting folders to be mapped to drive letters on all my PC's laptops etc, it's working fine. I had to read the instructions, but I won't jold that against it ;)
I did have a heart attack at the day and a bit quoted to transfer all my files onto it. But after posting on a few forums I found out that was the limitation of my wifi network, not the DS211J. If I'd used a CAT5 cable it would have been much quicker.
Noise wise, I have it set to quiet mode and I can't hear it in my living room. The only time I could was when it was running a check on the HDD when I first installed it.

I'll let you know more when I try iTunes etc in a few weeks.

I've had a DS411 for a while and I've got all the gubbins set up. Give me a shout if you need a hand, although actually it's all pretty straightforward.

Brothers laptop is a cheap Compaq Celeron C900. I told him to buy more RAM and a T4400 Dual Core Pentium from eBay. I've seen some laptop with reasonably simple access to the CPU socket with some work required.

He brought me the laptop today and I had to literally strip it down to it's component parts. Every single cable and part was removed. I swore it wasnt going to be put back together again.

Not only did it work though but beyond all expectations I did not have a single screw left over

That in itself is a major accomplishment ;)

Strangely surreal experience with the insurers. I gave them the Jacobs quote for the broken camera and they honoured it outright. No looking around for best prices or anything. They paid out £814 for a Pentax K7 and £192 for a Sigma 70-300mm APO plus the refund for the quote (minus £100 excess). I'm still in shock! It was too easy.

I've ordered a Pentax K5 (body only) for £875 and a Tamron 70-300mm for £120 leaving me around £75 out of pocket for the exact lens I had before but a far far far better camera in the K5.

Yay!

I've also got C&G Level 3 in C++ Programming, (and a few other which I can't remember right now, and can't be bothered thinking about!) and my 10 metre swimming cert, (well, I passed it, but haven't seen the cert for over 25 years, so I'm assuming it's lost!)

I didn't get a tufty badge though ;) :etc:
