I could hit myself. I was using the neck strap the whole time I was out with the camera. I always do! Only I'd put the camera away (shoulder bag) and was heading home when I spotted a squirrel. I though "ahh, quick pic" and the rest is history. <Insert failboat/facepalm>

I think I've only ever used my camera strap once in all the time I've had my camera, and that was when I was in Egypt last year. Mark

because the temperature is so hot there and you forgot to use suncream so you as a last resort used camera strap round your neck to try and prevent getting sunburnt on the neck?

No. Yes it was hot, and yes I never used suncream, I did wear long sleeve tops during the daytime heat and I had my sun hat with me (as opposed to the winter hat that I have). I knew I'd be scrambling up sandy ruins so the strap helped keep the camera safe while I concentrated on keeping me safe. I didn't carry my backpack camera bag with me when out and about because of the heat. Mark

I have an Op/Tech USA neoprene strap I use. Anyway, here's something random from earlier... Laptop by Snaptophobic, on Flickr

My understanding is the GX20/K20D has a fairly tough chassis with all its weather sealing and what not. Hitting the concrete the way it did was enough to crack the plastic casing though but the real damage is when the camera is switched on the mirror flips up and down very quickly over and over for a few seconds until it stops. I can only presume something has come loose/broken on the inside. In other news the insurance are going to pay out (had to get a quote from Jacobs to say its beyond economical repair) but as yet the model/cost is undetermined. I presume they'll give me a Pentax K7 though.

This: Makes me wonder why I have the person in question as a 'friend' on Facebook. (Occombe Farm is a local beer festival that's running this weekend, by the way.)
