Now available on the Mac App Store at £180. New versions of Motion and Compressor also, for £30 each.

Holy crap, we were just talking about this at work. Didn't think it was going to come along before September for some reason. And so near pay day too. How irresponsible of them. Damn it. I need other things more at the moment.

So get them first. This'll still be there a month or two from now. At that price I can see some hand wringing going on over at Avid. Mark

Of course. I'd be surprised if work moves over to FCP X any time soon anyway. And yes, it's a hell of a deal on the price. I'm amazed it's not over £200.

Well, it kind of is when you consider that doing anything meaningful requires Compressor. Mark

You reckon? In all the time I've used FCP, I've literally used it twice.

Is that in a professional environment or on your home setup? Mark

I wonder when some of these features will trickle down to QuiTime Player X? I seem to recall Apple saying that QTX had less editing features at the time of release due to the fact that old editing frameworks hadn't been Cocoa'fied yet, presumably FCPX Cocoa'fies some/all of these frameworks?

Lot of interesting comments in the App Store about FXPX - mostly from professionals complaining about lack of features they have in the previous FCP. Not being able to open legacy projects is one major flaw, whilst at the same time they see the XML import from iMovie and posting to FaceBook as an indicator that the “Pro” bit may be misplaced.
I am hoping for some balanced reviews from the press soon. I guess there’s a whole shed load of new stuff to take in.
So far, I’m impressed by the price. I think I paid almost that much for Final Cut Express a few years back. Apple are really slashing away at their “Pro” level app prices there. I guess the shelves at the Apple Store will be emptier than they are now.

Very good (and quite long) article here. One of the things that the pros are moaning about - inability to be able to export audio metadata in standard formats - has already been fixed by Automatic Duck. Mind you, it more than doubles the price of the whole system if you get it. Jon

They had a long discussion about it on MacBreak Weekly this week.
They said that a lot of key professional features are missing. Alex Lindsay of Pixel Core said they will be going over to Avid for most of their production - mainly because FC X can't handle the number of objects, like FCP could.
Mind you, in their productions, they are talking about hundreds of thousands of objects which need to be edited together...

So why not just stick using FCP 7? It hasn't suddenly stopped working, and it's far cheaper than a move to Avid.

I guess they are looking at the long term picture based on what they are seeing now.
