Nothing so awesome, sadly, just the picture.

Unless that was a really long lens, it's pretty awesome just getting that close to a pretty young lady. I imagine you possibly even spoke to her *tries to remember the last time it happened*

(thread derail) You know JJ, most pretty ladies don't actually mind if you just chat to them, provided you're not weird about it. Pretty ladies are people too . Jon

I remember this from when I last met one. Sadly, it's a rare event. The last girl I really wanted to take a picture of was collecting for charity on the London underground dressed as a rather tattered bumble bee. It didn't occur to me until much later that she might actually have let me. Instead I just gave her a couple of quid and grinned like an idiot.

Just got round to upping these that I took shortly after getting my camera, shortly before coming out here. I'm quite pleased with them. Could I have some criticism please? Also, how do people feel about upping to Facebook? I've taken quite a few shots since I've been here and I'd like to share them. However, once they're there, are they not the property of FB? Also what should a watermark look like in order to copyright my stuff? I'm hardly very good at this, but I'd like to keep practising and I enjoy it. Thanks in advance guys.

FBs T&Cs are fairly crap iirc. That, with the cropping and compression is why I don't upload anything there. Probably best to use another photo site rather than a networking one and just link as required.
You don't need a watermark for copyright as it's automatically yours by default. They can be easily removed, may help disuade people from using photos without permission, but certainly help with brand recognition.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I've never noticed any additional cropping of the images I've uploaded to Fb. If I just wanted to display fairly low resolution images Fb would be fine for me (assuming I didn't already have a website of my own and a Pro Flickr account, which I do). These days there loads of different free places you can put images to be able to share them, from Fb to Tumblr to any number of the free blogs that have photo sharing themes. Mark

Not entirely sure what criticism you're looking for. I like them both, if that helps. The tones and atmosphere that you captured work really well together, especially in the first image, which conjures up the twilight years of the coal mining industry. Mark

I like the them. Concepts such as lead in lines and the rule of thirds can help with composition if you want to be geeky about it but I don't have any particular criticism of those shots. The first one especially appeals to me coming from a mining village. I do remember something about this some time ago and there was a stink up. I've looked here though and there's nothing to worry about. To post on the web I have a (standard) Flickr account and use Imageshack although I don't upload that much, just the odd image I want to post/share, etc.
