Quote:
Speaking in her home town of Waterloo, Iowa, on the day she announced her candidacy, Mrs Bachmann appeared to mix up the actor John Wayne with the notorious serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
“What I want them to know is, just like John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa, that's the kind of spirit I have too,” Mrs Bachmann told a television interviewer.
However, John Wayne the iconic Hollywood cowboy and political conservative, was actually from the town of Winterset, Iowa, 150 miles and a three hour drive away.
His birthplace there is a well known landmark in the state.
It was John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer known as the “Killer Clown,” who lived in Waterloo in the 1960s, managing fast food restaurants.
He went on to be convicted of killing 33 young men and boys and was executed in 1994.
The remark threatened to tarnish Mrs Bachmann’s attempts to capitalise on her Iowa roots.

People like her are a worry to the Republicans, according to BBC News last night. She’s probably the most charismatic of the lot so far. It’s the Tea Party movement which is driving people like this.

Tea party? We should be so lucky. This one's a whole different grade of crazy. If she gets to the White House, christ knows what the effect will be. It won't be good, I tell you that.

Bachmannites despise IB because its "universal" curriculum refuses to recognize the superiority of Christianity to other religions.
She'll fit in perfectly....

The problem is that the whole idea of the tea party is fundementally flawed. The US needs government deficit spending to allow consumers to tighten their belts without sending the economy into freefall. WIth austerity which the tea party propose the average household will have a serious problem balance their family books.

To be honest, I'm considerably more bothered about the prospect of having a religious fundamentalist in charge of the largest and most high tech armed force on planet earth than I am about American domestic finance issues.

She is widely considered less of a grunting halfwit than Palin, but with either of these idiots fronting the Republican presidential campaign, they are surely toast in 2012.

Let's hope Obama is less hopeless in his second term than his first.

Yes but you also remember that they elected George W Bush, who is widely regarded as the worst and the thickest president. Yet he gets re-elected. So do not underestimate an party and electorate to elect a complete crazy into power.
