We should be doing that here as well. It will reduce the need to build more power stations anyway.

I've heard rumours of the Czechs building extra nuclear and coal capacity specifically for the German market. Whether that's true or not...

Given that you can't move for wind farms over here, I think they won't need to import much electricity. I think, currently, over 45% of electricity over here is generated from renewable sources.

Couldn't agree more. But we still need nuclear - in my opinion.

My boyfriend is reading/viewing everything he can find on Japan and US and I won't go in to all the horror stories he's telling me. It is going to affect us all. Of course that's why the media is going to keep it quiet. They'd rather report the important things like who Ryan Giggs is shagging this week

Maybe so but with renewables and an change in energy billing so that the more youy use the more you pay will seriously cut demand, and encourage the use of the off switch rather than standby.

Who cares there is no super injunction now? Or have the Japanese applied for one over their reactor. What really surprises me about the location of the reactors is that they were places in the direction of the fault line and they simply underestimated the tsunami considerably. It would have been far more sensible to locate them all on the other side of the country away from the high tsunami risk areas.

That sounds too much like common sense to me.

Have a look again. The berm surrounding the Nebraska reactor has failed.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Thought I'd just pipe up that finally I have seen some news about the US reactors on the 'mainstream' news.
Well, not really, it was about a nuclear research facility that fire is encroaching towards and where 12,000 people have been evacuated. That's about it though.

Perhaps so, maybe Cheryl Cole has a new hairstyle or something that takes precedence. Mind you it's not helped a worker taking out a 2000ft berm that was to help protect the Nebraska Plant from the flood waters. It seems he swiped it with a Bobcat.
