It sounds like the girl has awful manners, however the way the woman went about informing her was despicable. She should have spoken to her son about it. Then accepted that her future daughter in law is the way she is. You can't change people.

Well possibly but from what the step mother was saying you might wonder if she expects her potential daughter in law to have been to a finishing school. Step Mother in Law from hell and bridezilla. What an awful combination for the fiance to face.

We had some amreican friends staying last year. I did as one of the meals a traditionla Roast Beef and all the trimmins. thier kid (Aged about 10) asked for ketchup and I said no! - you should have seen the look on thier faces - I told them its my table, my rules and I didn't spend a lot of time & money (it was very good beef) for him to smother it in ketchup

LOL, quite right too. Putting ketchup on roast beef is a good way to ruin a nice roast.

Lol, reminds me of being in Sorento and overhearing some other Brits. The food was fantastic but all I could hear was another table asking 'you got any sauce?' and then them mumbling complaints about the waiter not knowing what they meant by 'sauce'. I mean, c'mon.

You're lucky they didn't ask for maple syrup. I've never tried it on meat, for one thing it's too damned expensive!

It's the only way to eat what they try and pass off as bacon, streaky shouldn't be served like a shard of salty pork and even less as a breakfast bacon Bacon does go with everything however, even chocolate

Really isn't the same. Also my favourite brand vanished - I found one that was rather palatable and sold as an icecream syrup, but they only do other flavours now

Rusty, thanks for that, I am sure you are correct, however, I was merely paraphrasing an old cliche
William of Wykeham (1324 - 1404), Motto of Winchester College and New College, Oxford
It is by politeness, etiquette and charity that society is saved from falling into a heap of savagery.

See the sig. My thought on the topic is "RUN, RUN FAST AND FAR!" this to both the bride and groom. Not necessarily together.
