OK, while I wait for House season eight, can anyone suggest a suitably epic TV show to watch?
I'm not overly bothered if it's been on for a couple of seasons - I'll just do box set marathons until I catch up - as I did with House.
Obviously, it needs to be pretty good though, if I'm going to spend cash on DVDs to get up to speed.
So, whatcha think?

What about Mad Men? My other half has gone through all 3 seasons on DVD in under 3 weeks. From the bits I've seen it looks good if the subject matter appeals to you.

Big Bang Theory.
TBH I haven't watched any proper drama type show for a few years!

I thought Fringe got boring very quickly TBH. Firefly - I already have it, and have just watched it all again; including Serenity. Game of Thrones - I hadn't thought of that, is it any good? BSG - got it, seen it. Many times. Haven't heard of Psychoville or Boardwalk Empire - I'll look them up. I've heard a few people give it the thumbs up. The setting doesn't really appeal to me, but I might give it a go. I was looking more for a drama than a sitcom, but I wasn't clear on that in the OP. Cheers guys, feel free to throw some more in though.

Sopranos is worth a go if you haven’t already done so.

Yeah, it did cross my mind actually. I haven't seen any of it, and it did end properly I hear, rather than just get cancelled. I haven't seen any of "24" either - I think when it started I had already reached my quota of shows to watch. I saw a complete SG1 box set on ebay and nearly caved, simply because it's one of the few sci-fi shows that didn't get cut.

24 - We watched the first series after seeing none. Loved it, just need to find time to watch seasons 2 and 3 that I have upstairs before I buy the other seasons. SG1 - definitely. I picked up all 10 seasons and 1-3 of Atlantis recently. Oh and the film of the pilot and the 2 one off films that go with it. Still trawling through them, really worth it. Seasons 4 and 5 of Atlantis are on my 'to buy' list.

Yes. Thank the benevolent creator of your choice they've commissioned a second series.

Best suggestion in the thread. However, Game of Thrones, Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire are all suitably epic replacements, in the real sense of the word. Of course, there's always The Wire, if you've not been there before. Fringe has gradually deepened throughout season 3 and 4, so is definitely worth a look IF you like JJ and Syfy. If not, probably not. Although a couple of the performances are superb.

Ah, that is one that I remember seeing trailer for then forgot what it was called. Thanks. I really ought to try 24, because I haven't heard anyone slag it off. The only thing that stopped me getting the SG1 was that fact that I have seen so many of them, but out of sequence.

Dexter?
How about the first couple of series of ER if you've never seen it? Best TV show I've seen in the last 20 years.

OK, Game of thrones is on my list along with Treme and Sopranos. I stopped watching Fringe early in season three, but I loved John Noble in it. I saw a couple of random episodes of The Wire in season one - it just didn't click.

Right, where do I start? I really enjoyed series 1. Got bored quickly with series 2 so gave up and never made it into following series. If you can last series 1 without wanting to strangle the protagonist's daughter then you may enjoy the others.
