Of course with shutting down NotW there's also one less newspaper he owns and a great way of downsizing the workforce. As there wont be a need to have a duplicate workforce for the extra edition of the Sun that is almost certainly going to be produced.

That has been in the works for some time now.

Newsnight just announced that an arrest warrant for Andy Coulson will be issued tomorrow.

I dont think Murdoch gives two hoots about Coulson. He's no longer part of NI. The same as Wade. If he has to sacrifice her he will. All he cares about is the buying of the rest of BskyB and as he has addressed the concerns about the independence of Sky news, it will go ahead. Probably later rather than sooner.

Yes Coulson is irrelevant to Murdoch, though I suppose the only reason that Rebekah Brooks is safe for now is because she can be sacrificed later.

Though it neatly avoids that nasty thing called consultation and what would of been almost certain union action. A larger amount of staff can be made redundant and the unions will do practically nothing. Those that are retained can be offered new contracts at reduced rates and terms and they will be happy to avoid the cuts so will accept.

... its almost like it was planned <dons tinfoil hat>

Let's put it this way, the current situation may not have been planned but you can be sure that RM has seen it coming and planned for it to maximise the situation.

From Popbitch (cos why not? ;) ):

With all the blagging, cash payments
and subterfuge involved, some of the
stories coming out at the moment make
phone hacking sound like it would be a
very complicated and expensive operation.
Well, imagine if NOTW execs were bright
enough to have found a simpler solution.

As the self-appointed scourge of paedos
and the promoters of Sarah's law, it was
only natural that the News Of The World
would be on hand to comfort the victims'
families in many of the most horrific
crimes of the last decade. And such was
their apparent determination to rid the
country of child sex offenders, it wouldn't
have seemed too weird if a senior NOTW
figure sympathetically handed over a
mobile phone at no expense to the victim -
so that they could all keep in touch. And
then, of course, there would be no problem
monitoring those phones, would there?
If the rumours going around News
International about who the person
handing out the phone was are anything
more substantial than chatter from
understandably bitter ex-employees then
we might see some action on this website
before too long:

Love to see the evil cow do time...

Now the painful task of cleaning up the Metropolitan police begins

Now that officers have been prepared to jeopardise inquiries for personal gain, Sir Paul Stephenson must root out Met corruption

A good article, though somewhat undermined by this from the same paper/site  :

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/fe ... e-meetings

Stephenson shouldn't be anywhere near it...

Hm. NoW closing down, Cameron hasn't appointed a judge yet. I'm sure RM will ensure all of the computers and their information will stay safe and secure until a full investigation takes place.
