I'd buy a Merc like that.

Oh.... and I echo everything said about Seb Vettel. What a thoroughly nice guy.

I thought it was saying that the second hand market was a pretty good source for second hand cars. Look, if you are wiling to lob £7000 at a car, then you get an idea of the high-end cars that are available for that price. You will get a much better bargain if you aimed your sights a little lower.

I think what they were getting at is that you can now buy a car for £7000 that would have cost £82000 when new (in the case of the CL600). Just shows what depreciation does to expensive cars.

Yep, he is depressingly very nice, down to earth and funny.

I still want to snap his f****** index fingers off.

A friend of the family was trying to talk my father into a Bentley Type R when they were £15000. "They'll never be cheaper!" was the refrain.
Over the last 5 years, we've watched the prices plummet.
I was recently window shopping for cars at around the £4000 level, and there's some bargains to be had. I think I made a post about it here somewhere.
Was tempted by 2.8 Z4...

Scalextrix do a Top Gear set. Now Honrby have no excuse but to follow suit. I’d buy it.

presumably it would have to not set on fire though.

Bit of a filler ep tonight I thought. The trains stuff was OK but a bit predictable I thought. I can't imagine even an oaf like Clarkson is actually surprised the Jag couldn't pull four 'carriages'. May would certainly have known. Jag vs GT-R was a nice illustration of how good the GT-R is (and how Ferrari & etc are taking their buyers for idiots) but even I didn't expect it to murder the Jag in straight line quite the way it did. News segment was good but not great. Rowan Atkinson is naturally funny, obviously, but I don't think the interview actually amounted to anything and if he's been driving an F1 for 15 years and actually does race, he's always going to be quick round the track.

Overall... 6/10 ish I think.

Jon

I've only just watched Episode 1 on iPlayer, so a bit of catching up to do.

I thought it was quite a good one overall. Wasn't too bothered about Clarkson and the M1. The thing he banged on about was that the Golf GTI was 'classless', Well I don't think a 2+2 that costs 40K is really a car for the people is it? It's a very nice car but it's a rich man's plaything. Standard Top Gear stuff but well made nevertheless.

One thing that pi$$ed me off no end was the line-up of GTI cars. They missed out the MK5 and that's the one that clarkson had said was return to form - as fast and exciting as the original. Quite convenient!

The animation stuff was nicely done. Really enjoyed it, along with the Tron track.

Really? I found the whole thing contrived. Cool to see the scale but crap on everything else

jonbwfc wrote:
News was excellent and I so actually want them to do a show where they track down the last example of all the mundane models of cars that have died out like Austin Maxis and Datsun Cherrys.

That would be good, though I wonder how many of those bangers are now locked up in sheds and forgotten about.

The e-type sequence was excellent fun and a fitting tribute to a genuinely classic and beautiful piece of design. And oh, how I want an speedster e-type. Yes, It may be half a million quid but it's got more class in a single curve than your Veyrons and Huayras have in their entire existence.

I almost had a tear in my eye. JC should run for PM.

And good music too. Quite a lot of it was from Daft Punk's 'Tron Legacy' soundtrack but I like that, so good for them.

In the last three or four weeks, I've noticed it loads of times - one of them is in some puff perfume advert. Another one was sports related. I listened to the soundtrack during my revision every day for something like two months.

I enjoyed the episode but Clarkson raving about the 1M was daft. All throughout I kept thinking 'but it costs 40 bloody K'. Ok so it out dragged a Lotus and Porsche but that does not make it a successor to the original GTi.

I would have liked to have seen a comparison with the Golf R and Audi RS3 for that price band. No hatch is worth buying at over £30k IMO (and at that price, it'd better have every option ticked with free serviving thrown in!).

Yes when can we expect it on ITV3 or Dave?

Rather enjoyed the most recent one. None of the parts were filler, they were all pretty good. The interceptor thing was rather funny, Clarkson driving the Lotus 'f1 car' was interesting, and the whole 'knocking down buildings' thing was exactly the sort of 'cocking about' they don't actually seem to do much of any more. However I think Heather should send the photo of her car she posted recently to their news department, because it beat either of the ones they showed in the new segment.

I thought exactly the same thing. I may well do it, though I think this series has now ended.

Rowan Atkinson crashes and burns his F1, in hospital with a shoulder injury.

Might as well go in this thread as he was on TG a couple of weeks ago talking about it.
