er.... meh. Somewhat lacking in 'vim' and felt rather like a cheap version of one of the Bourne movies to be honest with you. I thought the black CIA guy did quite well though.

Hmmm .... too American for me. The great thing about Torchwood up to now, especially CHildren of Earth, is that it was well made British TV. It showed that the BBC was able to do home brew SciFi. This kind of felt that there was a bit too much meddling from the other side of the pond. So not sure yet. I’m willing to give it a chance, but I’m concerned that it’s lost something at the expense of an exploding helicopter.

Somewhat ironically, what it may have lost is... it's soul.

Some lovely Welsh moments. I especially liked this shot: I think it's pretty cool the way they play to the American market by making Americans look ignorant and stupid. It works for me, and it's worked for some of my favourite American shows too.

The BBC is still the BBC in many outdated and conservative respects. Queer as Folk was screened on Ch4, if it was on the BBC it likely wouldn't have been commissioned at all. Mark

Watched episode 2, and for me it’s not quite picked up yet. It feels like it’s revving into a standard issue American Chase Series. This is obviously RTD’s trojan horse to get him into writing for US TV. If that’s the goal, then Torchwood is likely to succeed. Yesterday’s episode felt like padding. Nothing of great import happened, though we now know what colour pipe the degreaser is pumped around a 747 in.
Wayne Knight (who was Sally’s boyfriend in Third Rock from the Sun) and Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) were co-stars this episode.

Lots of exposition in the first two episodes. It's certainly looking like it's being treated as a reboot of the show since going stateside. I'm not enjoying it any less, I'm just enjoying it differently.

Watched both episodes so far and tbh won't go out of my way to watch anymore. Just another "American" program with the word "Torchwood" in to catch peoples attention. Very disappointing

I disagree. I think both the plot and the acting is extremely "Torchwood".

I think it’s being big - that is the kind of big that Americans like. We do small - and in the case of decent British sci-fi, we do claustrophobic. Quatermass, Doctor Who, Torchwood (original, BBC made in Wales Torchwood) Blake’s Seven all did this. It’s driven mostly by story telling, but also partly by budget. If you throw enough talent at a story, you won’t need gimmicks like exploding helicopters and rocket launchers to get an audience. The audience won’t notice the lack of exploding helicopters because the story has gripped them. I hate to say it, but Moffat’s Doctor Who stories are arguably the best of the new batch. He does this kind of thing very well.
The claustrophobia doesn’t have to mean that everything is in a small room - it’s the feeling the story gives you. What is more scary - monsters under the bed or big planet destroying events? I bet it’s the monsters, and this is where the good stories come from. This is what is wrong with the American Torchwood. Considering Children of Earth did this so, so well, I am a little dismayed that the new series feels so, well, big.

It's starting to feel a bit dragged out.
