Is it worth installing on a 2006 MacBook? At the moment I think not as I won't get all the multitouch gestures that my boss has on his MacBook Air. Plus I'll need a RAM upgrade as well so more cost. Snow Leopard is running fine for me given the age of the laptop.
Not sure if iLife 2008/9 is compatible with Lion

Mine is installed on a mid 2007 MacBook Pro and has actually improved the performance. I found Snow Leopard to be very sluggish. I imagine iLife 09 will run with no problems but it won't have access to the fullscreen features of Lion. Just checked and Lion requires a Core2Duo processor and I think the MacBook is a CoreDuo which means it might not run at all. Check in "About this mac" in the Apple Menu. It will say what CPU you have.

10.6 required C2D to install, so if Snow Leopard is installed it must be a C2D processor. Mark

I've got a 2006 era iMac here and that's a Core Duo, and therefore not Lion-friendly. IIRC the iMacs and MacBooks tended to have similar insides, so you might be out of luck. You can download MacTracker from the apps store (it's free) that will tell you exactly what your mac is, and what it has inside it.

I'm pretty sure I have a Core 2 Duo in my MacBook. Looking at this page here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1635Mine is a 2007 MacBook 2,1 with this spec: 13.3"/D2.0G/2x512/80/Combo

I am not even going to attempt to load it on my laptops. Both are too old for Lion.

Off topic rather, but I have that exact problem with my Android because the media player and browser act this way

Put Lion on my MBP. It’s the first of the Core 2 Duo machines, and it seems fine for it so far. The good news (for me anyway) is that Adobe CS3 applications seem to work fine on it.
I’m testing it prior to upgrading the MacPro.
