Lol I thought of that as soon as I saw DoE above. Loved MOTU as a kid but reflecting back on it, it was a bit naff!

The cartoons are still watchable (though I don't recall liking the 90s one much now that I think of it), the film I can still watch though I find myself laughing at certain lines etc. I'd actually sooner watch it than the latest load of CGI bollocks, so... :)

Oh fo'sho! I actually liked the New Adventures stuff, the original stuff was camp and the movie was funny. The 200x series, like its TMNT counterpart, was much more grown up and well written but CITV stopped airing it, so I didn't ge beyond the first season.

I got this, though I'm only 10 eps in or so, must go back to it:

MotU was a massive flop, they were going to use the profit from MotU and Superman 4 to make a Spiderman film IIRC.

They didn't end up making that Spiderman film...

It wound up something like $5m short IIRC, and in 1987 that was a lot

It actually did quite well I spose, considering they'd stopped making the cartoon something like two years before. I'm just thinking that, depending on the merch deal, it might not have been a flop in real terms (as opposed to Hollywood accounting). I remember they were still producing the figures (I owned the Blade one), there was a video game for various formats, a sticker book, all the usual stuff...

Budget was $22m and it grossed $17m.

It could have been great but IMO was just let down by everythin - writing, costume, location, acting.

The thing that most bothered me about it was Skeletor's rubber 'face':
