Fairly easy choice. I love Blade Runner, but you can't live on it.

No baiting, just a mistake.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

It is a good film but not the best ever. Hence I voted for pie.

Blade Runner has perhaps the greatest ending of any film, and add in the haunting Vangelis soundtrack and you have a sublime cinematic experience, but it isn't the greatest film i don't think. In terms of mass appeal, storytelling, pacing, well just about everything in a complete package, probably the greatest ever film would be something like The Shawshank Redemption or The Godfather Part 2.

Which version? 112 minutes or 117 minutes?

Godfather II is definitely in there, but does this thread have legs? Are we really interested in discussing the best film EVER, or just talking about some old sci-fi movie that's pretty good?

Depending on who you talk to, you've pretty much summed up Star Wars

In my opinion it's far more than that. The dark vision they produced using string, light, film and acting has far more depth of reality than anything produced in the decades since, despite their relatively low budget and absence of computer generated special effects.

Ummm no. We've been down this road before and you should know better! Episode IV has far more fans than Blade Runner and is a more accessible, uplifting and epic film.

I stand by my statement since it covers a lot of fanboys in both groups

Pfft. Madonald's has far more fans than my home made burgers, doesn't mean they're better.
I'm not at all saying Star Wars is a bad film by the way, it's isn't. It's a very, very good film. However taken as a film, Blade Runner is better. The story is more complex and therefore more interesting, the acting is better, the cinematography is better although I'd accept that Star Wars was groundbreaking in terms of special effects and sound. But on an other than technical level, pretty much every aspect of Blade Runner is superior to Star Wars.
Aside from that, Blade Runner is probably the progenitor of an entire genre (it's the prototypical cyberpunk story) whereas Star Wars is good old fashioned Space Opera and hasn't really influenced anything other than the merchandising industry. Star Wars is a fine example of an existing genre. Blade Runner remains the best example of a genre it pretty much created on it's own.
And at the end of the day, Star Wars isn't even the best Star Wars movie, Empire is. If you were to put Empire up against Blade Runner, that'd be a much closer fight.
