It would need to look absolutely stunning for me to care personally (I've never been bothered by graphics). I'd be more fussed if the tech leap meant more innovation in the games, or even just that 1080p we were promised. You?

If they can do 'as good as current' at 1080p60 with say 4X antialiasing, I think that will do most people to be honest. If you could so say Forza 3 or Gran Turismo level stuff at that quality, what extra is a ton more silicon going to add? Better if they said 'that's good enough' on the graphics and threw what extra processing grunt they had into better environmental physics and AI. There's no point making your world look super-realistic if it still doesn't feel super-realistic.

+1, and now you've got me wondering what they could do with a graphene chip too

Sure they'll have a lot more shader power, but what they need is tesselation. Lots of it.
Get rid of all those point heads etc.

Graphics were good enough 5 years ago.

What isn't good enough is the software. The drivers are almost universally awful for any card that is worth using.

I go for gameplay over graphics but then I don't mind eye candy either. If the next gen can do DX11 stuff at 1080p60 then I'd be more than happy.

It's the same as films. It's the plot and deployment that matters most, but no one is going to complain if the cinematography is gorgeous!

I think for me it's Gameplay > Graphics > Story.

I noticed it most when going between The Witcher 2 and Dragon Age 2...

The former is graphically stunning and has a rather decent narrative however IMO the gameplay is rather stale. There isn't really any decent "evolution" to the gameplay and ends up feeling repetitive IMO.

Compare this to Dragon Age 2 which although having a worse story and heavily reused locations, the gameplay is much more engaging and dynamic with a lot of variation and upgrade paths (further differentiating and evolving the gameplay). Ultimately i'm much more satisfied by DA2 than i was with TW2.

This is in direct contrast with all the reviews which state that The Witcher 2 is one of the best games of the summer with DA2 being one of the most disappointing sequels.
