The price is the same as you could get from eBuyer if you add it up, except that you get the copy of Windows thrown in for peanuts. I guess they have a good deal going with Microsoft - possibly a promotional thing because WHS hasn't exactly taken the world by storm. I very much like the idea of WHS but I'm determined to make mine work with Linux in 1gig with no gui. I need to prove my geek credentials somehow

1gb ram? I got my original WHS2011 install in that, ran fine tbh but a little jittery streaming HD content, the no gui thing is a bit too intimidating for me though

If you want to sell it, let me know. I'm still using a single core Venice 3500+, I could use an upgrade.

Cashback offer expires like TODAY - goods must be delivered and invoiced before the end of July. I wish I'd known that earlier - I might have bought 5 to sell on http://h41112.www4.hp.com/promo/prolian ... index.html*posted from a shiny new mini-server booted from the internal USB stick *

Yep! Loving it so far. Surprisingly snappy, but a full review will take a week or so because I have IRL stuff to get on with. The drive bays do appear to be hot-swap btw, and it came with a 250GB drive which I'm now posting from again with Ubuntu. I love the build of the thing. You only need the little key it came with to get access to everything, and it really is built like a "proper" server. Much quieter than my old MyBook too. It's humming gently, which is reassuring rather than the annoying intermittent scream I'm used to! The cash-back paperwork is filled in too, so fingers crossed... although I think the full price is still decent considering the quality of it.

They have extended it 3 times so far, but at least eBuyer to sat delivery so you could order now, or get a different microserver without the cashback or make your own

http://h41112.www4.hp.com/promo/prolian ... index.htmlExtended until 31st August, who would have thought it Kikatek have it on offer too, couple of quid cheaper than ebuyer http://www.kikatek.com/product_info.php ... _id=180559 I would get it from ebuyer purely as they are a HP preferred partner and I have used them before

Feel free dude. I couldn't resist plugging in the 2600K and 16GB 12800 over the spec you did - which came out only £200 more than a handmade spec. I put together recently of essentially the same gear (only difference being a 3GB 580 over an SSD) where I'd not got round to choosing a case or PSU - and that one you've there has all many of cooling features thrown in, so I don't see how a DIY could touch that. Still, it's not a solution for me, as I'm now decided that I don't want a workstation anymore and that I'm happy to wait for our IT guy to get WebEx/TeamViewer operational so I can "work" that way... And so there's that proliant again. Hmmm. Another thing I'm waiting on my IT guy to sort is get our new media-room units running - they've had fairly good reviews, and if I can live with their (reported) fan noise, I think it might be a case of buying two, (room and lounge) and a proliant. The laptop/netbook flight of fancy can wait. I think.

Thats what i thought - my current PC is over 5 yrs old and I built it myself. While looking at getting a new one I did consider doing another self build but the cost is so marginal that getting the one specified above - with the additional peace of mind of the guarantee hardly makes it seem worthwhile

I've been sensing that from the videos - but then I don't stream HD content, I buy the media - but it is a concern nonetheless.
