I am planning to clone the drive in preparation of the upgrade. So was wondering whether I can get away with a 2Tb USB drive to clone onto and boot from or should I stick with a Firewire drive?

If it's an Intel Mac (which it must be if you're upgrading to Lion) then USB is fine (as per this Apple support document).

Yes it is. They are only a year old. As long as I can boot after cloning that is all I want.

Have you actually used it yet or is that based on other people's opinions? So far the scrolling thing was a bit weird and took me a while to get used to it but using a trackpad it makes a lot of sense to do it this way round (but there is no real argument there as there is an option to turn it the other way round anyway). Other than that I have to say that not a single change in Lion has been for the worse. Also, there isn't anything from Snow Leopard that isn't in Lion that makes me miss it. Not only that but my MBP is a lot faster since the update. It was really dying using Snow Leopard and apart from the odd hiccup now and then it seems to be doing fine on Lion even with 5 or 6 apps running. There does seem to be a lot of negative noise being made about Lion but I really don't see why? (Also not flaming, just voicing my opinion from actually having used it)

I have found a lovely little app call Appsolete which scans your drive to show what is going to be obsolete. Then with that running and Appcleaner running in smart mode it picks off any of the other hidden files. So one machine has just 9 apps to delete or upgrade.

Just saw this little snippet on MacWorld's US site, for those who take objection to Lion's app auto-restore feature... BTW: Option key is also known as Alt! I'd imagine tools like OnyX will be updated for Lion in due course to make this a permanent option, rather than Terminal.

There is already an option to stop this for all apps but not for individual apps. Looks like the terminal thing adds the option for individual apps also.

They've removed Front Row!? I used to use it frequently... Can anyone recommend an alternative?

Plex or XMBC are both good. I use the former on my media centre Mac Mini, works fine under Lion. Quick heads up - it appears there are problems with the video drivers in Lion for the most recent iMacs. Basically, if you let the mac sleep, then wake it up and play a H264 video, it may freeze. The apple support forum thread is here. Temporary solution is to switch off sleep, although people beta testing the 10.7.2 update say it cures the problem for them, so the alternative is to wait a bit before installing Lion. Jon

LOL!
At work I use Mouse Gestures with Firefox to go backwards, forwards, open new tab, close tab, etc...
Anyway, I just found myself trying to go backwards by swiping left-to-right! LOL! Took me a while to work out why it wasn't working.

Yes I have used it - I wasn't impressed tbh. It just seemed a bit "All fur coat and no knickers".

You know, I've never understood why that phrase was supposed to be derogatory. Seems like quite a fun proposition to me. Depending on who it is of course... Jon
