It irritated me like crazy when it popped up when I accidentally hit the wrong combination. I was always looking for a way to disable it.

After seeing the reviews I have decide to get it but hold off for a couple of months. It will enable me to make sure that everything is Lion ready as I have a few which will not be compatible.

I trust nobody on here has been affected by this one: PayPal Users Massively Overcharged for Mac OS X Lion

No I saw that. But who honestly uses a PayPal account linked to their iTunes account? It might be more of an american thing with fewer people having bank accounts.

I am wondering whether Lion Server version is worth getting. Are there any real benefits over the normal version?

It depends what you mean by benefits.
Server will allow your mac to run as a: File server Web server Email server Media server Internet gateway (afaik) Etc...
If you need that kind of stuff then you should get server.
Although, it is available as a software package from the AppStore if you want to get it at a later date.

I'm installing a 13" MacBook at the moment and using Safari. I am beginning to see, on such a low-resoltion screen, why Apple have included the full screen mode. I don't need the full width, but the amount of vertical space is severely limited.
It is a very different experience, using the 13" 1366x768 display, compared to the 1920x1080 / 1920x1200 of my laptop and my iMac.
I have hidden the dock, for the moment, but it seems odd, not seeing it, but at least I get a bit more vertical space. I've just put SL on it, so I'll see what difference Lion makes, once I've installed it... After I've patched SL.
I'll be making a boot DVD while I am at it, I have another 2 Macs to update (and I want to re-install my iMac from scratch), so I don't want to sit through another 10 hours of downloads!

Yes, I don't really want to start replacing system files though. There is some risk of them interfering later on...

Ah, have you used it, or have you used it? (i.e. did you have a little play or have you sat down for a week and got into all the nooks and crannies?) Lion seems a bit buggy, but overall quite nice. I've hardly had a chance to play on it as all Faye has wanted to do is watch TV/movies on it (we don't have a TV, so all our media goes through my Mac). I think I'm free the weekend of the 20th, so I might be able to have a proper play then...

I use Air Video (iOS) and as long as I access the files on the NAS via Remote (iOS) and Air Video (iOS) while the machines are off that is all I really need. I can leave everything else for another date really.

Finally got it installed on the laptop and burnt the DVD... It only took 21 hours (well, I installed SL in the morning and set it to download Lion yesterday at 11 in the morning, it was still at 75% when I went to bed.
The new scrolling makes sense, when using the touchpad, but it still feels wrong, when using a mouse.

That's my general impression also, although I don't actually have a mouse so I only use the Magic Trackpad.

Does anyone know if the new scrolling behaviour will work with my 2007 MacBook Pro? It doesn't support gestures as it is. All in all, it's looking rather like I'm just going to be sticking with Snow Leopard until something forces my hand, like being required to upgrade to keep up with iMobileMeCloud or buying a new Mac. There just doesn't seem to be anything in Lion I really need or want, and it breaks too much of my software that I still need around and can't replace or afford to upgrade. I said it once with Leopard - but I eventually came around - but this time, Lion may well be where I get off the giddy OS update roundabout.
