Just burning the Lion DVD...

Which bits of Lion Server do you need?

It is an add-on package for Lion, install Lion and if you find you need the extra features of the server, buy the Server add-on.

I'd go that route, as it is cheaper to just buy Lion and see if you need the extras than to buy both Lion and the Server extensions in one hit, only to find you don't need them...

Thinking about buying a push-bike so I can start cycling to work in the mornings. Just not sure if I want to become one of "them".

Just looked at the reviews in the App Store. The Server add-on is getting an average of 2 stars, a majority of ratings are 1 or 2 stars, with one 5 star and 2 four stars.

The biggest problem seems to be lack of stability (one reviewer had 14 kernel panics in one day, Timemachine being the biggest culprit). Another said, for 39,99€, you can't expect a full server system and you don't get it! :? A lot of "server" functionality seems to be missing, although he doesn't state what.

But that seems to be people upgrading Snow Leopard X-Servers to OX X Lion Server. It might be a different matter on a Mac mini, where it isn't working with proper hardware (multiple processors, SANs etc.).

I am looking at putting all my media on a very large NAS drive connected to my Time Capsule and access everything via my iPad or my connected iMacs. I need extra space for my music collection and thought about re ripping the 1300 CD's at 256 kbps AAC rather than 192 MP3, to make it compatible with iTunes Plus. The plan was to set it up a music server connected to the Time Capsule so I can turn the iMacs of and use the iPad for music if possible.

Whether I take the RAID route or not depends on budget and ease. I wondered whether Lion Server suited that role. Personally I feel happier knowing I can get away with Lion and not needing the server elements.

Do it. Looking down on motorists is far more rewarding than looking down on cyclists. Just a shame you'll have to wear a skid lid.

Yes and even if you are a few miles from work it will not take long before you are noticeably fitter. When I first started cycling to work it knackered me at first, taking nearly 50 minutes. After a month I was doing the journey in half an hour. Not bad through rush hour London.

Alright I think I will! Thanks guys :)

Edited to add: On a similarly healthy note, I am now the owner of the biggest Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine I have ever seen; they only have the jumbo one left in stock and I only wanted the smaller one, so they did it for the same price. Will put it to first use tonight.

I have three, all bought the same year. I bought a normal and jumbo grill and had an additional normal one as a pressie. At least when one gives up I have a spare. :-)

I've cycled to work a couple of times. I don't have a lock so I tend to drive my bike to work and then cycle home and then cycle back to work the next morning and store my bike in my car.

It's about 12 miles for me though on a very hilly route :D

Probably going to bring me bike in tomorrow and cycle home. It's good fun and a good way of chilling out after work.

What kind of route (length, hilly, flat, road, off-road, etc...) would your commute be? What kind of budget are you thinking of? I can maybe point out a couple of suggestions.

I used to do it with ankle weights as well. It really helps build up strength fast. After a couple of months you find that you can get up hills in top gear.

I saw ads for this locally and was undecided about it. I then figured I didn't want it to ruin the mythos of Batman for me, so I gave it a miss. Was it worth it for a Batman fan or more suited to casual fans?

ION I received my £2000 laptop. Just gotta get things installed. So far, firewall and antivirus are up, as well as firefox. Anything else that I should download for my new win7 x64 based lappy?
I presume there are win7 versions of things like adaware, spybot, ccleaner, spywareblaster etc?
