Looks like htc are looking to counter Apple's FTC shenanigins in America, by suing them in England.

Apple won't let htc sell hardware in America? Maybe htc are trying to ban the sale of Apple kit in Europe. :?

This will probably end in a patent deal in near future. Though who ends up paying who will be the big question.

I really revel in the idea that this patent madness might end up in something like Windows not being available in Europe, or maybe cars being illegal in America - that would be awesome.

Could get worse than that - there's patent just been granted in the US that is just bizarre. A company wanted to patent a procedure to extract a particular gene from human DNA. They went through the legal procedure and gained the patent, only to find that the patent they were given gave them rights not only to the extraction procedure but to the gene itself. That means for every person born in the US with this particular gene - and it's rare, but there are an awful lot of people in the US - their parents are now technically liable for breach of patent and the person with the gene should pay the company a licence fee. That could equally apply to people entering the US, as every time you heal or create new cells, if you have the gene you're making a new copy of it. Feel like supplying a tissue sample on entry to the US?

This is a gene which has existed within a percentage of the population for thousands of years.

Even worse, some people went to court to try to get the patent overturned on the basis that it was clearly incorrectly drafted and the judge at that hearing said the patent was valid!

Then who'd the rest of the industry have to copy in a half assed sort of way? ;)
