Hi all,

Wife's Laptop has died, completely

Thankfully I stole it from her a couple of weeks ago and made a system image using the Windows (Vista Business) backup tool. The "backup plan" replacement laptop is currently running xp, I am trying to stick the image on this one but no luck. I have a Paragon hard disc manager recovery disc but it does not read Windows-made backups. I tried a Windows 7 repair disc but it complained that the image was Vista.

Does anyone have a Vista (Home Premium 32bit) repair disc I can have a copy of? Or any idea where I can get one?

Have you tried running Spinrite on the disk? That often works wonders.

I don't have a Home, only Business and original install DVD at that.

Thanks for the replies!

Big_D: the dead laptop is properly dead - heavy liquid damage across the HDD, motherboard and RAM. My local PC repair shop (non-cowboys) opened it up and just shook their heads sadly. I have followed your advice before with Spinrite before (still have it) and it has worked wonders!

OEM/business version shouldn't matter AFAIK, I won't be installing Windows with the disc, just using the startup repair program to transfer my saved image.
