And this is normal for software. There's an entire branch of engineering dedicated to dealing with the reality of it.

In software systems, it’s not unusual for technology or changing business needs to significantly change the requirements during construction (after all of the requirements and design documents have been completed). To put it in the bridge building analogy, it is like having one of the roads moved six miles downstream after the bridge foundation was already in place.

I know that, it's just on a regular basis assumptions get made without being checked, stuff isn't fully specced even on business rules and there is never a record of when things change how/why they change. I try to make the documentation but it's never used and don't see the point in it any more

Arrived at the office at around 6.20am this morning because one of my staff phoned to say their swipe card wasn't working; only to find out the brilliant new card system they installed on Friday wasn't working. After twiddling our thumbs for around an hour someone finally turned up with a key and let us all in.

I've forgotten my lunch, am very tired, grumpy, and not at all impressed.

Been there, done that.

We had our system installed in April - well, they started on 2nd January, but they had all sorts of problems and finally got it finished 3.5 months later! I got a lot of grief from my boss about it, as I was supposed to be coordinating it.

One night, it refused to close and our boss sat there from 23:00 until 00:30, when a security guard turned up and he was still there when I got to the office at 7:30. :?

Ouch.

You'd think, given they had a whole weekend to test it, the new security company would've had it all ready to go Monday morning so there were no complaints, apparently not.

Yes it happens everywhere, but we only ever seem to hear about the government mistakes as if they are the only ones who are incompetent. So was this incident a P45 triggering event? ;)

How can it possibly take one person more than 5 minutes to use an ATM? Seriously!

Also, could all the breeders out there please not let their offspring stand on bus/train seats. You don't know what they've been standing in and I and many others don't want to sit on whatever it is either.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I hate the people who seem to do a zillion things at the atm, none of which seem to include taking cash out.

Dear Adobe,

Please make an update installer that doesn't hang in XP.

I know you've only had 6 years to sort it out but if you could, perhaps, if it's not too much bother, at some point...

PULL YOUR F***ING FINGER OUT!

Yours sincerely

Dear user,
Dont be a tight wad and update your insecure outdated relic of the past OS, Were having enough trouble getting our program to be secure on more modern OS's let alone on something that was released in 2001.
Yours sincerly Adobe

On a motorway, pootling along at a steady speed minding my own business in lane one, passing the countdown markers to an exit. Muppet zooms up aggressively to my tailpipe, lurks there intimidatingly, and then powers off up the slip road as if I was in his way.

I hate that. There's no need for such aggression.

It must be really frustrating when you get so angry that you have to post while doing 60 Mph on the M20. and the cars are swerving all over the place. Now where is the other mobile I want to text it too.
