The in-law still eating you out of house and home then?

I'm sure he makes up for it, being a great conversationalist and all round good egg, no doubt.

No?

Okay, feed him to the pigs.

Some [LIFTED] has thrown away a set of sixty samples that need to be analysed.

He goes back on Saturday.

I shall vent properly then.

We have a house guest at the moment.
She's vegetarian... so that means we're all eating veggie from Friday to Sunday.
She's down right rude; sat opposite me at dinner the other night I asked if she'd like more potato. No response. I was literally the only person speaking at that moment.
So I offered the wine, and again I was ignored.
Then she's complaining that sooner or later, she'll probably have to wear glasses all the time. And can you imagine having to do that? What a shame that'd be.
Oh and London's under sharia law and most of the country's ills are all the fault of the 'mussies'.

Deep breaths.

I turned vegetarian for a while and I didn't have any weird ideas or thoughts. In fact, if anything I was thinking more clearly, less tired and more "springy".

But there is this delusion of how much "Sharia law" there really is.

In nature, herbivores are less intelligent than carnivores.
Just saying. ;)

Double standards at the BBC?

Watching Torchwood the other night, with my 9 year old daughter... I'm quite annoyed that the Beeb didn't say anything about the content before the programme started. Also WE GET IT! Jack's gay! Or Bi, or whatever... we didn't need anywhere as much naked man on man action... did we?

The double standards bit kicked in last night. I watched the news on ITV and saw Sir Alex Ferguson have a little rant at the FA which involved the use of the word "s h i t"

I turned over to the BBC to watch something else just as the same story came on the BBC news, and they bleeped out the "swear" word. This was after 10:00pm!

Seriously? Naked men at 9:15 is OK, but saying s h i t after 10:00 is not?

Anyway, she won't be watching Torchwood next week. :(

I think that's more to do with how they get their food. You don't see chimps collecting their meat from a store and then cooking it. Lions don't wait for the food to be cooked before eating. They chase/trap the prey - there's work involved and that requires a degree of intelligence. More so that sitting around and eating the food in front of you (grass).

Hence I agree that in the natural world, carnivores will tend to be smarter. They need to be. Up until humans had to catch and kill their prey with the most basic of tools, they were pretty smart too. The stupid/physically slow ones generally got eaten.

If you have any doubt, I refer you to America.

Not just the BBC. I had a rant about this (probably before I created this thread) - there seems to be no coherence over what gets censored and what doesn't. I've seen episodes of Friends where the word "porn" is filtered out in the context of porn star but not in the context of pornographic films. This is 6pm in the evenings. I was flipping through channels and there was a naked guy on a sex education show at 8pm.

Given that kids these days watch TV in their bedrooms etc, which limits parental monitoring, I think there should be content filtering dependent on age. All TV from 6am up until 7pm should be suitable for anyone (U). From 7-9pm, PG. From 9-10, 12 or 15 rating, anything after 10pm is 15+. All shows would have a pre-screen warning as well as a rating in the top right if PG or above. In this way, you can be sure you don't have to be careful about what children might be exposed to. Filtering would be similar to BBFC standards.

I wasn't allowed to watch TV after the watershed when I was 9. In fact, I was usually in bed by 9pm :?

If it was a school night she would have been in bed. Apparently it's all my fault, as I turned her into a Doctor Who fan, and I didn't change the channel when the "rude bits" started, even though her mother had the remote.

He's gone...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

  1. Eating is supposed to be a batch process; it's not supposed to be a production line with mastication on the right, storage on the left and beer in the middle as lubricant.
  2. When I make a meal, don't just go to the fridge and help yourself to more.
  3. Jars of gherkins usually last more than one meal.
  4. When dinner is announced as ready, it is a usual courtesy to put your f***ing camera down and come to the table.
  5. It is a usual courtesy, when wishing to go out for a hour-long walk, to make sure the cooking hasn't already commenced.
  6. When coughing, it is a usual courtesy to cover your mouth and turn your head away from other people and the table.
  7. It is usual practice to turn the handle before attempting to open the door.
  8. It is also usual practice, when walking, not to make a noise like a Napoleonic Army column on manoeuvres.
  9. When you've invited yourself to my house, don't get p***ed off when I don't cancel everything to entertain you.
  10. Don't EVER treat your sister, my wife, like shi-ite again or I will end you.
  11. Oh and if anybody, ever again, says, "What a German doesn't know, he doesn't eat", that person will eat their next meal through a tube.

That'll do for now.

Sounds like an obnoxious barsteward. I've always made a point of behaving impeccably when visiting anyone, though sometimes it can go too far and offend the host.
