Yeah I thought about going to PAYG at one point, which is why I asked.

O2 seem to have a Simplicity 100 tariff which is £16.50pm incl data bolt-on (which I need). But does this mean a new sim and number? I've had the same number for almost ten years, so I'd like to keep it if possible.

Not in my experience. I'm on O2 and I went from a contract to a Simplicity tariff and back again and kept my number throughout. I can't remember if I got a new sim when I went back on contract (might have come with the new phone) but the number was transferred across without any issues.

I recently switched from a contract to PAYG on O2. I still have the same number. You will get sent a new SIm but can transfer the old number. It took a couple of days in total.

I switch from a contract to O2o, which has no monthly fee, but a maximum of 50€ a month (they call it the Mobile Airbag over here). I kept the same number.

Also, the SIM card is irrelevant, if you get a "normal" smartphone next time, instead of another iPhone and it doesn't use a micro SIM, you'll get another normal SIM to replace it. It is a matter of seconds for the provider to associate your number with a new card.

Ordered the Sensation yesterday...

Your current provider should offer SIM only contracts on a monthly basis.

I went from an iPhone £35p/m tariff to a £20 simplicity tariff. Still have unlimited data on it but since I don't make too many calls, it barely goes over the £20

Yes but if you can get some subsidy on the handset it can help. A free iphone with a big discount can work out only slightly more expensive than a PAYG option plus calls. Though you do get loads of call minutes as well. Then switch to a PAYG if you plan to keep the phone.

Might have spoken too soon, my mike seems to have given up the ghost and people can't hear me when we're on the phone. My nearest apple store is in Exeter. :(

On the plus side, you can come see me if you do go there!

Does it work if you use the bundled headphones?

I haven't tried actually. Now, I wonder where I put them? I also have a Bluetooth headset for my mac I could test it with.
