Does anyone know if there is a LGA 1366 adapter available for the Swiftech H2O 220 Compact?

I found some old forum posts asking about them. Either they haven't materialised yet, or my google skills are lacking.

I received an email from swiftech who said this:

RE: Swiftech H2O-220 Compact LG1336 compatibility

Hi There:

No we do not plan on releasing a socket 1366 compatible version of this block, and it is not technically feasible to make an adapter for it.

We are working on something entirely new that will be easier to upgrade for future processor releases.

Best regards,

Gabe

It looks like you'll have to do some modding or wait till they bring out something new.

Too bad, was hoping my 220 would last a while.

Anyway, that probably saved me spending loadsa cash on a major upgrade.... for now. ;)

Thanks for the info.

Spreadie, I've just had an idea. The Asus P6T and Asus P6T SE (not the deluxe model) both have mounting holes in the motherboard that can, if I remember rightly, accommodate LGA775 coolers, so all might not be lost.

Read this thread about a Tuniq Tower and a AC Freezer 7 Pro fitted to a Asus P6T SE. You may able to upgrade after all :D

Damn you, for finding an excuse for me to upgrade!

It's an interesting idea though, I wonder how well 775 coolers perform on 1366 CPUs. They are physically larger than 775 chips, so I imagine they will overlap the contact area a fair bit.

No! I must resist. Must save money for a new tent!

I can't take the kids camping with a core i7.

I've found another solution to your problem Spreadie

If you use the leftover packaging materials from your upgrade and with the help of some egg boxes, pipe cleaners, a washing up liquid bottle and some sticky back plastic, I'm sure you could produce some amazing camping accommodation

Just to tempt you a bit more, it looks like the Foxconn Bloodrage and Flaming Blade series have LGA775 mounting holes (but not the Renaissance)

Quality p!ss taking.

Seriously, did you EVER meet anyone who had some 'sticky back plastic', when Blue Peter said you needed some? And why is it that your mum was always only halfway through her bottle of washing up liquid?

They may as well have said, "all you need is half a kilo of weapons grade plutonium, the engine block from a Ferrari 308, and a 25KG sack of rockinghorse crap".

OK, self-help time...

I don't need an upgrade, I don't need an upgrade, I don't need an upgrade...

Err... hang on a sec.

Fakesnake is suffering from chronic upgrade-itus, on the old forums he was thrashing a new CPU every month! It isn't exactly an objective perspective.

Mind you, Fakesnake, if you ever catch the thieving barstools who knicked yer tools, you can stress-test a P4 and drop the chip onto their nads!

I don't need an upgrade, but I do really really want one. ;)
