Is this some scheme to deprive me of my morning fix?

If they were giving the people Starbucks coffee then it will be in the mind as theirs is nothing more than brown water.

So this experiment just basically states that the body's natural stimulant is more effective (/helps you perform tasks better) than being wired on Caffeine?
I'll be the first one of my friends to call them out on the matter of "it's obvious in hindsight"... but i thought it was already proven that taking coffee shouldn't necessarily improve mental performance.
I'm also surprised they used the decaffeinated group as the control group... i thought they should have had a one group that weren't coffee drinkers and one group that were (both being denied coffee).
That way you'd be able to see if the Coffee actually had an effect on mental acuity in addition/comparison to the placebo effect.

There must be a psychological effect as just having a decaff coffee can also boost someone. It must be mood as well. Just having a coffee in the morning can pep people up even if it were decaffeinated.

No, I've just never experienced a buzz when drinking coffee or other caffeinated products.
Even after going 9 months without coffe, black tea, cola etc. I didn't experience any buzz, when I started drinking coffee again.

I only get a "buzz" after about 5 cups of something fairly strong. I get a bit shaky, restless and I can't concentrate on anything properly.
In the morning, I just need water. It doesn't matter what flavour it is.

I'm certainly twitchy if I have two cups of the college coffee in the morning. I have a friend who's positively mental after 3 cups in a day. May not be the caffeine, but there's a lot that goes into a coffee, from a chemistry point of view.

Have you being spiking their coffee with something illicit? Actually lots of sugar can have the same effect.
