The government is to ban referral fees in personal injury claims in an attempt to curb the "compensation culture".

It says the current system in which personal injury details are sold on by insurance companies to lawyers has led to rising insurance costs.

Justice Minister Jonathan Djanogly said honest motorists were seeing their premiums hiked as insurers covered the costs of ever more compensation claims.

They should also ban the texting of people telling they may have a claim. Many of these will be completely fraudulent.

They also need to stop people claiming for whiplash injuries

If you can't prove soft tissue damage then you should not be able to sue for it. I think (Big_D can confirm hopefully) that in Germany it is assumed that there is no whiplash injury where the collision is less than 30 kp/h so stopping a lot of people claiming a few £thousand for low speed accidents

I was in a car accident many years ago and the guy sued me for "personal injuries and other losses". Gave the letter to the insurance company and that was the last I heard of it. This was over 6 months after the actual crash. Neither of us were injured. Just a couple of bumps and bruises. My next renewal quote went down.

There is a three year limit for accidents, unless children are involved.
