Looks like Internet Explorer on the tablet form of Windows 8 won’t be capable of running plug-ins either. And that includes Flash.

Quote:
Desktop versions of Internet Explorer 10 will still support plug-ins, Microsoft's President of Windows, Steven Sinofsky said. To put it bluntly, Sinofsky says that running plug-ins such as Flash on the tablet version of Internet Explorer 10 "is not a good match with Metro-style browsing in the modern HTML5 web."

I'm sorry but HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

ROFLROFLROFLROFL!!!!

I wonder what the Apple haters will say to that one? What happened to the shouts of "what a stupid idea to not support flash in the iPad etc..."

Turns out Apple seems to know what they're doing. Who'd have thought it.

I wouldn't necessarily use 'well, Microsoft do it as well' as a form of vindication to be honest with you.

I mean, a report I saw from Build said the sample tablet they were showing Windows 8 on had a fan in it

I do not regard that as a fail. Many sites are going to HTML5 anyway so it is pretty redundant. I have not found many sites that the iPad does not render. If the website is flash heavy then they will lose traffic. Either because many have Click to Flash or have uninstalled Flash all together or because much more traffic is via iPads anyway, and the last thing that web site owners want is to exclude a profitable segment of the market.

In the long term Flash may become redundant, but Windows 8 will be out long before that happens.

I agree but this is for tablets and not having Flash actually reduces the security risks. IIRC Windows 8 will still render Flash on laptops and desktops just not mobile devices.

I like flash websites to work on my mobile, and I'm sure others do too.

90% of the time, Flash on my phone is just annoying. The other 10% of the time, it means the PoS website actually works and I can use it.

Obviously I have it turned off most of the time, but while such stupid websites exist Flash will be a pretty important tool to have available to you.

Annoyingly rather than reducing the use of Flash on websites, the iPhone has simply generated an alternative revenue stream for companies with crap websites by selling users "apps" to accessing what should be available through any decent browser. OK some of these apps are free - but it's very telling that it's easier to make a Facebook app than it is to fix Facebook.

Yes and I am sure that hackers want your phone to run Flash as well. ;) It is much easier to hack a device with Flash than most browsers nowadays.

The best thing I ever did for web browsing was disable flash, it's given my computer a new lease of life. Now, if I need to view a site with flash, I use my other browser. It's been an issue twice in the las six months. Both times I viewed the site and realised I had no interest in it and wished I hadn't bothered. Flash is slow, crap, bollocks, [LIFTED] stupid, a complete waste of [LIFTED] time, totally non-insurmountable in the sense that there are other ways to achieve what it can do and also [LIFTED]. Did I also mention that it's also [LIFTED] and completely unnecessary?

Hmm, but Windows XP and Windows 7 tablets run Flash, so that is a step backwards.

Not having Flash on my iPhone hasn't bothered me at all in the last 12 months. I don't think it bothers Faye on her iPad either...

Or at least a step in the right direction...
