My Dad was a total arse when I was in my teens. I hated him.
Now we get on okay.

I think this is pretty common for sons. Me and my dad got on much better once I moved out when I was younger.

Yep, I was within a hairs breadth of duking it out with my dad, in the back garden; way back in my late teens.

I now realise that he would have kicked my arse up and down the street, without breaking a sweat.

Our relationship improved beyond recognition soon after I moved out.

In my case his work was the issue. As soon as he went self employed he became a much nicer person to be around.

I think my Freeview recorder has died which is really annoying. Was bound to happen sooner or later as I've had it for years.

What do you plan on getting to replace it?

It's working now. I left it switched off for a bit, but I like the look of this as a replacement.

That's what I was looking at too. I have two issues: my reception can be variable and requires me to move the indoor antenna, so I'd need to set the position before setting it to record; there's not much on Freeview these days.

Annoyed. Very Annoyed.

Found a bargain laptop on the Dell Outlet, had already missed out on 2 others of the same kind whilst deliberating (over the course of the day) whether or not i should buy it.

Eventually decide to buy the last one remaining even though it's not quite what i want (colour and specification) but the former isn't important (although i've come round to the idea) and the latter is just £20 worth of RAM upgrade. All in all, was still quite excited by it as it was intending to replace my current 4 year old lappy.

Anyhow, order was placed on the Wednesday evening and it's listed as "Order Processing".

We phone today just to check the status as it was still the same only to be told that the order was cancelled...

- Because the payment couldn't be authorised (despite my dad phoning up the credit card company and them saying there was nothing wrong).

- Yesterday. So by the time we check today, the Laptop isn't there any more...

- If it ever did get bought by a customer that is, and not just some Dell Employee thinking they missed out on a bargain and thus decided to nab mine instead and cancel my order - I remember out of curiousity i checked the Dell Outlet site multiple times throughout the course of the day yesterday just to see if they had any new stock... not once did the laptop i ordered come back on the site.

So ultimately... Annoyed!

Snap.

My PVR has gone on the blink again, well it won't initialise the hard drive. I sorted it last time by buying a new plug/adapter thingy as they tend to go. As it's happened a 2nd time now I think killing the power brick is just a symptom of something else...

Well, that's what I'm telling myself. That Humax has got pretty darned good reviews and I believe I really need one now.... :D

I doubt an employee took your laptop, they probably get good discounts on custom machines anyway. I bought this laptop through the Dell outlet, waited patiently for the psec and colour I wanted to become available and then snapped it up. It did need a RAM upgrade and after 3.5 years I finally got around to it. Should last another 3 now.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

You're probably correct, it's just been a relatively bad day. The laptop was really just the icing on the cake.

Had Campus Registration this morning, gave myself an hour for a 20-30min journey, bus decided to be over 30min late (they should be every 10-12min) and thus i arrived late for it.

Then they expected me to hang around for 3 hours just to attend some induction that wasn't particularly useful either. (Yes, i only live 20-30 minutes away, but paying for both the Bus+Tube back home and then there and back again would be stupid imo).

At least i've got Eurogamer Expo tomorrow to look forward to -.-'.

My current box is a Humax. I would recommend them.

A "fellow" forumite was recently having problems with his car. Given his proximity, I offered my help (I have VCDS) and asked to arrive this morning between 0800 and 0900 (24h clock format). Needless to say, despite waiting until 0930, he didn't arrive. He hasn't messaged to apologise or explain, despite being on the forum. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, I shan't offer my services again!
