A eight hours indoors with the internet connection down was hell. Let alone a week.

The factory of Lear Corp. in Quakenbrück went up in flames yesterday afternoon. A few of hundred metres away from the office, you could hear the flames crackling especially when the roof started to go up.

I posted a few pics on Twitter...
http://twitpic.com/6svflr

http://twitpic.com/6sv01p

http://twitpic.com/6su9y1

10 minutes after the third photo, the fire was about 4 times as big! We thought they had it under control and went back inside, then there was a huge crack and we rushed back out, I didn't have my mobile with me at that point.

The local newspaper has a report and video - only in German though, but you can see the fire better on their pictures and video.

They say, that the fire was initially reported as a source of smoke to the fire brigade, but by the time they turned up, the factory was in flames. They had fire engines from the whole of the Osnabrück area and from the neighbouring borough of Cloppenburg. Damage is expected to be several million.

Lear are a supplier of seats to the motor industry (among other things), they are a large employer in the region, with 250 jobs at this site and another big site in Bersenbrück (just over the road from where my girlfriend used to live).

My girlfriend could see the smoke column from her mother's house in Hesepe, about 25KM away!

One of the fire women fainted due to heat exhaustion, but was reported as being okay afterwards.

It is reported that all employees evacuated the building safely.

Getting a feck load of errors from iTunes when trying to transfer from PC->iPhone apps that I've previously bought and installed. So although they're on the iTunes account, I can't get them onto the phone. So having to get them installed via the iTunes app.

"It just works" my arse!

EDIT: ION there was a full-on Knight Rider convention in the UK. I didn't know until today.....that it was today!

It doesn't appear to be a windows-specific issue. It's the way the whole iTunes/account/iPhone thing works.

Guessing here but some of the apps are those that I've recently bought but didn't sync to iTunes (I hardly ever use it), then iPhone bricked whilst updating. Lots of hassle later, blank iPhone and restored apps. The only apps restored where from the last sync. That laptop is now dead so have new laptop, where I have to resync everything with the account. Again, things that were never synched before new laptop don't appear. ITunes have this new function where you can redownload your apps (but not your music or videos unless you'rw in the US) so redownloaded all of them. But having done that, they won't resync. I think I'll need to redownload them all from my iPhone and hope the in-app purchases haven't been lost.

Wondering why Safari in my user account does not play videos. It is telling me that I need to update Flash to 10.3.110 yet it is already installed, and Safari in the admin account works without a problem as does Firefox in the user account. :?

I know. We need to reinstate Mark's tongue-in-cheek emoticon. ;)

I only have two authorised computers with my iTunes account, and only one of those is where I actually download and manage media. Apple are working to move away from iTunes reliance for many of their connected devices. Hopefully the scenario you have encountered - and no doubt many more have encountered unwittingly - will begin to disappear.
