I can't help feeling this isn't going to be as big a thing as people seem to be expecting.

The big thing for me is not the new phone, it's the new version of iOS which will (hopefully) get a full unveiling tonight. Mainly because of what I have already seen and would like to see more but also to see what other "toys" I get to play with in my apps.

Yes, I have to agree - the media build these things up until everyone's wetting themselves with anticipation (apart from me) then the actual announcement is always going to be an anti-climax! Latest rumours suggest we're likelier to be getting an iPhoto 4S, which will look practically identical to the current model, bar a few improvements to RAM to handle iOS 5 better and maybe storage bumped up. The iPhone 5 design is rumoured to be having issues with keeping the A5 chip cool enough. But only Apple know the real story, so it's pointless speculating really.

It never is. small incremental improvements always leaving something for next year.

Exactly. I was looking at a phone but if the upgrade is minimal I might go for a iPhone 4 which will be cheaper, rather than the new version.

I'll look at it and decide if its worth the upgrade (I'm out of contract soon when you include the earlier upgrade "benefit"), if so then the iPhone 4 gets sold and in comes the new shiny one.

If the rumours about Assistant are true (especially the fact that it will only run on an A5) then I may have to fork out for an unlocked phone!

Yes but that is dependant on what is on offer, same as for me. A cheap iPhone 4 might suit me for a while rather than the new model. Though it all depends on what contract I can get with my telco.

Since getting the original iPhone I have sold the previous one to pay for the new one. The iPhone 4 32Gb cost me only £9 by doing this

Yes but I still have to jump on the bandwagon so do not have one to sell. It also depends on my phone usage as to whether pay as you go is better despite the higher upfront costs. I plan to hold on to it for a while, my current smart phone is more than 7 years old.
