Shouldn't he be getting an OBE? Though I do think that the sentence was a little harsh. This man is unlikely to be a danger to the general public, plus proper probation would eliminate that risk. Huntley is an odious individual but he still has the protection of the law as would anyone else inside.

I'm struck by the thought that if his calling is to dispose of child killers, prison may be the best place for him, it'll certainly bring him into closer contact with convicted child killers than being free would.

It will solve the overcrowding problem as well.

Why don't we just bring back public stoning? It's a tried and tested tradition, and it seems many on here would enjoy having a go.
If we extended it to adultery then it might help with our teenage pregnancy problem, reduce the numbers of unruly children in general and restore our once great civilisation.

There's nothing good about this story, and the responses speak volumes. Where do I start...

Ah, well, you see, once you get into the level of sheer... evilness (and there really is no other word) of the likes of the Moors Murderers, 'justice' becomes a very moveable feast. What appears 'justice' to one can appear very far from it to another. Extreme offences produce extreme reactions, which is why we have judges and sentencing guidelines and all that. Rather than rioting mobs and lynchings.
Not that I approve of some of the sentiments expressed but I can accept that's the way some people will think under these circumstances.
As for this bloke, he's just a nutcase. He's patently after publicity or notoriety at least and his chosen method of doing it apparently is to kill people. Very bad people but nevertheless he's a complete fruit loop. He doesn't need putting back in the prison system, he needs sectioning for his own safety and the protection of others. Because I have a horrible suspicion that over time his definition of people who 'deserve it' will become somewhat malleable.
How are the people applauding this going to feel the first time he decides someone in gaol for say accidentally killing a child in car accident also 'deserves it'?

Him, and everyone else if certain things run their course... Hence my post. Someone once said that a civilisation is measured by how they treat their prisoners. Or something like that. While I do believe the law can be an arse some times, I also believe it should apply to the whole of society all of the time; inside or out. I also have more faith in the British criminal justice system than any other in the world. And that's saying something...

No. The assailant was an armed robber. He's ruined someone's life as well. But suddenly he's alright because he's had a go at Huntley? They're both sad apologies for humans, and one having a go at the other doesn't suddenly make either of them any less of a cruel predator on people weaker than they. However, the sort of responses we've seen so far, would suggest that some of you may as well be cut from the same cloth. I don't like Huntley, and I'm glad he's in jail. I don't like his any assailant any more. The whole thing's a sorry mess. And the baying for blood from the peanut gallery makes 'us' as bad as 'them'.
