I know, I know. I've been bitten by the bloody hype, which has been exacerbated by the fact that my contract has expired.

Apples rules can go [LIFTED] themselves. Audible have released an update to remove the link to their online store to comply with the guidelines so Apple can gouge as much money from everyone else.
Thankfully at the moment you are not forced to update so im keeping the old version.

Its simple Apple want a slice of Audibles pie, as with the new update Apple have decided I must not be allowed to buy anything extra via the app without handing a wodge of cash to them for them doing nothing.

Wait, so what, Apple have hijacked a business they have nothing to do with into handing them cash on a per payment basis?

Its the Apple closed ecosystem. They want a slice of every pie regardless.
Audibles in app purchase delivery never went through Apples servers even the payment side was done by audible but that would stop Apple taking its 30% so now in the new version its been stopped.

Wait, I'm confused.
Can you explain the process to me step by step?
What does Audible do?
I apologise if this feels like you're talking to your grandmother, but I've honestly never used it, nor know why Apple's involved.

Audible sell audiobooks. They have an App on iOS which you can use to buy and download audiobooks direct to your iOS device, well you could in the new version you cant, as Audible do not wish to give Apple the 30% Apple insist they must have if you have in app purchases. You also can not have any link to an external store because that would circumvent giving Apple its 30%.
I can understand paying Apple an amount if you use their payment system or their servers to deliver content as this does have a cost to it but as audible dont use Apples servers for this I can understand Audible saying sod off.

Ah right.
I just googled it, and it appears the new update removes the in app purchase and lets you buy your content straight from Audible's site.
So Apple don't get your hard earned, and all is well, no?

actually no  by this land grab by Apple to exert even more control and get more revenue, me as a consumer is disadvantaged. Before hand if I was in a wifi zone I could very easily buy an audiobook straight to my iPhone, now there's added faff and it is the rant thread!!

*Must Resist Urge*.

I don't see how people can be pissed at that, yet at the same time take Steam's side in the whole Origin/Steam debate.

Not you specifically though.

/Calms down.

I've hopefully rebought my laptop. I should be happy.
