It would appear the Pirate Party in Sweden have won a seat, which is impressive.

The BNP have stolen one of Labour's seats in Yorkshire & The Humber. BNP's first seat in the European Parliament.

An open note to those 120,139 people who voted for the BNP in Yorkshire - you are a disgrace.

It's going to be fun over there with these results.     ;)

Did Heather stand in the end and if so how did the 404 party get on.

What's so bad about the BNP?

I know it's probs a stupid question, but I'm pretty ignorant to political stuff. All I see it as is a "boot all the immigrants ooot of the UK" malarkey.

Which controversial Adam believes should win.

They're racist and homophobic, and they have their own personal army of thugs.

I didn't stand for the EU thingy. I want to be in the bear pit at Westminster.

To be honest, the Jury Team didn't managed to get one MEP at all. I think they got a total of about 0.5% of the vote, though, so at least my vote was counted  . I guess there'll be some discussions going on to decide how they best put their principles across before they try harder for the UK general election.

They may be a disgrace but they have expressed there political will and are entitled to their opinion.
If the mainstream parties refuse to listen to sections of their community and address their fears (warranted or unwarranted), then more extremist parties will step into the void and talk the talk.
If the mainstream parties and the media just harp on about how bad it is that the BNP has been elected but do nothing to address the issues that have helped foster the environment that has helped get them elected then there support will grow.

With the idea of free speech and democracy you have to assume at some point there will be people that will hold ideas that you find abhorrent and they may even get into positions of power.

I wake up this morning to find two Nazis have got in. I am wondering how the media will treat them without giving them credibility. On the Election Results programme last night, you could tell that David Dimbleby and Nick Robinson were trying very hard not to use pejorative language as they talked about them. Must be a very fine line for them to tread.

There was a low turn out. Those who did not vote are as guilty of this as those who directly voted for them, as are the major parties. Why? Those who voted BNP were energised and did so. This is the way of smaller, minority parties - they have a larger energised audience. The bigger parties have clearly failed to elicit the same kind of activity amongst their voters, and were relying on regular voters turning out.

At the end of the day, we get who we deserve. Maybe we deserve the BNP.

Crap. I‘m depressed now.

Thing is, Paul, these sorts of parties do rather better when the economy's on it's knees, rather than when it's in rude good health.
Added to the fact that none of the 3 mainstream parties seem competent enough to hold power, and we are where we are.
For those who might still be unsure as to what's what - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3896213.stm
There's also a documentary which might be found on some of the sharing sites, I guess.
Employing Nazis is not the answer to the country's problems.
