My renewel is through. They want £379 but that goes upto £408 once they add on Insurance Premium Tax and an arrangement fee. I guess it's not bad as it's fully comp with protected no claims but I have 7 years no claims and low mileage so I'm going to get more quotes. Plus Nicola wants to be on the insurance this year. I'm not sure I should be enabling women drivers!

If you really only need the car for the odd trip, then it would probably work out cheaper to rent a car 3 or 4 times a year, when you really need one, or take a taxi shopping etc.

That's a very good suggestion, and surprisingly Best Beloved didn't consider it bizarre when I told him the idea. :o

My insurance is due in June or July. I may well need a car if someone deigns to offer me a job somewhere. If things carry on as now, that seems most unlikely, so if it turns out too expensive I'll seriously consider flogging l'Atomo and doing without until further notice.

Do you need to be a regular driver to keep up your no claims?

You need to be insured to keep it. You don't actually have to drive. Usually after 2-3 years of not having a policy some insurers won't accept the no-claims cert (but most are fine)

I'm on the hunt for cheaper car insurance now.
My current provider (Admiral) quoted me £581.33 for renewal.
Confused.com says that Endsleigh is the cheapest for me, coming in at £467.52.
Compareni.com tells me I can get insured for £441.97 from easyinsure.co.uk.
I'll call Admiral tomorrow and see what it has to say about those prices, if it can't match (which I suspect it won't) then I'll be moving provider.
This is fully comprehensive, 3 years no claims and £250 voluntary excess.

Mark

I’m still on Swift Cover - after talking them down by telling them I would not be renewed. Try them.

Also go to the cheapest insurer that Confused.com gave you and try the direct. Sometimes, you will get even better prices.

I haven't renewed with the same insurer for over ten years. Actually, I've not yet used the same insurer twice in that period, so I've been insured by quite a lot of companies now.

I get to go on this merry go round in Jan

Currently paying £350 with One Call Insurance which was the cheapest and that included protected no claims for the first time. Last year Endsliegh decided they wanted an extra £100 to insure me.
