BBC has a small spot on petrol thieves. They remind us at the end of the report that fuel duty increases by 4p a litre in January. http://news.bbc.co.uk/panorama/hi/front ... 615685.stm

I'm amazed that UK petrol stations do do the same as many stations in the US when it comes to paying cash. You pull up, go inside, hand over lots of cash, go back out, fill up your car, go back in and get your change. The pump cuts off if you get to the amount you handed over in the first place. It totally stops forecourt petrol theft.

I suppose Pay at Pump does similar. Insert card, type in PIN. Only when the card has been authorised does it start working. It‘s just not fully implemented.

Indeed it does. Buy not everyone wants to pay by card.

I doubt that. Most petrol stations are privately owned and buy their petrol from one supplier who's sign/logo is used. They make very little off petrol, but make their real money from people buying stuff in the forecourt shop. If everyone had to prepay by card there'd be less chance of them going into the shop and buying something as they passed. They'd lose most of their profits.

How much is fuel in the UK now?
We are currently at an all time high here, 1.50€ for diesel and 1,62€ for unleaded.
Diesel was 1,39€ last week, 1,45€ the week before. I'm hoping it will be back down to the low 1,40€s by the time I need to refuel...

Near me, it's roughly €1,50 for unleaded and €1,60 for diesel.

Locally between £1.30 and £1.35 -which I understand is fairly cheap. Petrolproces.com reports a high of £1.14 and a low of £1.30 - national average being around £1.35
