A press release saying they won't kill anyone and an actual disarmament that proves they mean it are two very different things. He may be an insufferable cock, but Blair does have a lot of useful experience in this one thing.

True, but that would be true of any deal brokered by Blair too.

+1 I would even venture a suggestion that Clinton did more to instate the Good Friday agreement than Blair did.

A peace treaty is made by diplomats and sold by politicians. I don't believe any of the politicos, including Mowlam and Clinton, did anything useful beyond putting their face on the deal that was made by their faceless underlings.
His sole purpose will be the same as Clinton's was, to give the actual signatories' credibility a boost by letting them have a photo op with an 'international statesman' so that they can more easily persuade their allies that they haven't abandoned the cause too cheaply, or made excessive compromise.

Credibility with who and where, exactly? Puffed-up self importance yes, but credibility? Being photographed with a war criminal sends very mixed messages.

I suspect the Spanish don't care whether you and I approve of him. They have their own war to end that has nothing to do with us. Blair's international credibility is not dependent upon a web forum manned by a dozen or so English lefties. After all, Clinton has been credited here with authoring a peace treaty even though he is pervert and a fraudster. Blair can do what Clinton did even though he is a piece of crap because one the one hand his misdeeds are not especially relevant to their low level civil war, and on the other they are little known or cared about in Spain.
