The person who unlocks your iPad 2 will not have complete access to your iPad, but will be able to gain entrance to whatever you locked your iPad 2 on. If your iPad 2 went to sleep in Mail, Safari, Messages, Contacts, or Maps, you can imagine the sorts of personal information that can be viewed on your iPad. If you left your iPad 2 on its Home screen, the person can view which applications you have on your device, control media from the multitasking bar, but not much else. | | | | |
I guess all those corporate users won't mind this one bit http://9to5mac.com/2011/10/20/anyone-with-a-smart-cover-can-break-into-your-ipad-2/

At least when there is a fix issued for this, it won’t be blocked by the phone companies who will either not want a software update released, or make you wait ages while they “re brand” the update, if the stories I’ve heard about Android are true.

Given iOS 5 now allows for 'delta' updates - as oppose to having to push out whole firmware rebuilds every time you want to update something - Apple should be able to fix this pretty quickly, you'd imagine.
Apparently it only allows you access to whichever app was active when the cover was closed, rather than the whole machine. That could be bad still but in the meantime you can block it if you remember to back to the home screen before you close the cover.

The iPad's equivalent of Emergency Pizza?

I've not got an iPad, but that's my default reaction whenever I put my phone in my pocket or put it to sleep. I can help but press the Home button first Faye appears to be the same with her iPad (which she doesn't lock) I somewhat thought most people did this?
