A mate is looking for an upgrade to his 8800GT 512mb budget is about £100 and limition is a [LIFTED] power supply. Although it is a 550W it's has no 6pin and limited Molex's so really only looking for a direct power plug replacment to the 8800GT that has to use two molex converts for it's 6 pin.

I've been a little bit out of the pc build world for a year or so, so not sure which way to go on this one. I have looked at the Nvidia GTX550Ti 1Gb which ebuyer do for around £97?

Cheers
Rich

The 550 will offer a huge performance leap over the 8800.

Might be worth checking out the 1gb 460 too though. I'm not sure if the 550 is much better, if at all, and you can get some cracking deals on the 460s with 3rd party coolers.

I know it breaks the £100 barrier (only just!) but Overclockers are doing an ATi 6850 for £108.

Some reviews also put the 6790 above the 550ti at the same price point.

But that would mean shopping with Overclockers (which you should never do)

I've shopped a few times with them. My brother used to live in Stoke so it was convenient too. Thankfully though I've never had to try and return something to them.

On the other hand other retailers are available

It's a lot of card for the money!

Ive used overclockers and have nothing but praise for them, even with a dodgy mobo. They issued a RMA number really quickly and I had a new mobo really quickly YMMV

Ebuyer have a 6850 for £107.99 so will save me having to use overclockers if your saying the 6850 is worth the extra £10 over a 550Ti?

6850 is worth the extra tenner IMO. The cheaper 6790 is more on par with the 550ti although some would argue it still beats the 550ti anyway.

You sir are either very lucky or are living in a dreamland.

I would suggest buying yourself a lottery ticket today.
