In Windows XP, if you go to control panel and sounds and audio devices you get window with various options and properties. On the volume tab at the bottom is the speaker setting. If you click advanced then you can chose your speaker setup from headphones up to full 7.1 speakers.

Question. Would any difference be made to the audio at all when chosing between stereo headphones and desktop stereo speakers? Hardware wise they both use the same connection.

IIRC it modified the EQ slightly.

Cheers. I didnt think it would make a great deal of difference. I had someone have a visit from a Dyslexic association to look at their IT setup and they left an answerphone message for me to go out and change the setting from speakers to headphones (they use Dragon natually speaking with a headset). I was pretty much thinking it wouldnt make a shred of difference.

For the purpose you've described it might make a difference by reducing bass a little.
